New Beer Blog Bell’s Third Coast Beer

image

In this beer blog, we are going to get into another brew from Bell’s Brewery.  It is their Third Coast Beer.  This beer always gets confused most beer drinkers with Third Coast Old Ale.  This one is a lager and the other one is old ale.  If you read my earlier beer blog posts on their beers, you know the history of this Michigan craft brewery.  If you have not, please, read them to get to know this Midwest craft brewery.  Let us get into this lager.

It has a cloudy golden color with a white constant head on this Lager. The smell has a sweet malty notes. The taste has a sweet malty note with a dry aftertaste. It is pretty drinkable beer and true to beer style.

Here is a description from their website (www.bellsbeer.com):

Nicely balanced, Bell’s Lager Beer focuses on the flavors developed in the brew house, matching a crisp bitterness & distinctive herbal hop aromas to a simple yet firm malt backbone. Following in the tradition of Bohemian-style pilsners, this beer spends a full six weeks maturing in the fermentation vessels. This extended conditioning period refines the overall flavor, highlighting the contributions of the malts & hops.

In order to best preserve shelf & flavor stability, it is recommended Bell’s Lager Beer be kept refrigerated.

Closing, as many of you know, I have been trying to find a perfect craft lager.  I have never had this beer so I broke down and pick up this beer.  It is pretty funny how this beer gets confused with their Old Ale.  I do not know why they named it about this same name. This beer is pretty average but I can see why they made this beer.  When Bell’s Brewery was starting, there was not many craft beer drinkers.  This craft brewery was trying to get mass produced lager drinkers.  There is many of these craft breweries that have lagers.  Mainly, these craft breweries started in the 1980’s.  I recommend this beer.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

Cheers!

New Beer Blog Tri-City Oktoberfest

image

In this fall beer blog, we are going to sample another beer from Tri-City Brewery.  It is their Oktoberfest.  If you read my earlier beer blog posts, you know the history of this Michigan craft brewery.  If you have not, please, read them to get to know this Midwest craft brewery.  Let us get into this beer.

It has a clear amber color with a white head that disappears over time. The aroma has a sweet malty to caramel notes. The taste has a sweet caramel but not as much most American Oktoberfest. The aftertaste has a dry malty finish. It is pretty drinkable beer.

Here is a description from their website (www.tricitybrewing.com):

Our Oktoberfest is light orange in color with a moderate toasted malt aroma. Is has a distinctive malt flavor that isn’t’ too sweet with a moderate and balanced noble hop flavor. This classic malty style is often described as elegant and complex but never cloying. This beer is reminiscent of Fall in glass.

Closing, I am a pretty big fan of this craft brewery.  I am happy to see this craft brewery’s beer around little bit more.  I am see their beers on more shelves.  I have never had their Oktoberfest so I was pretty happy to see it.  There is a nice balance in this beer.  They kept it as close to the traditional beer style.  It is not as sweet caramel notes from the Goose Island’s version.  I love this one. It is a great Oktoberfest.  I have to say this is one of my favorite Oktoberfest.  I will make it a point to pick up a six-pack each season.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

Cheers!

In this winter beer blog, we are going to get into another brew from Blue Point.  It is their winter seasonal, which is their Winter Ale.  If you read my earlier beer blog posts on their beers, you know the history of this East Coast craft brewery.  If you have not, please, read them to get to know this New York base craft brewery.  Let us get into this winter ale.

It has a dark amber color with a white head on this winter ale. The smell has a heavy malty note. The taste has a malty to alcohol notes. This beer warms you up in the winter. The aftertaste has a malty to alcohol finish. It is a sipping to almost drinkable beer.

Here is a description from their website (www.bluepointbrewing.com):

Our Winter Ale is a hearty, robust amber ale. We use pale, Vienna, crystal and chocolate malts to create a balanced character of malt and hops with just the right amount of spice to warm you up during the colder months.

Ending, I was happy to see Winter Ale finally made it back in my life. They are back in Michigan.  I am a huge fan of this beer.  I remember when they hit the Chicago market and I enjoyed drinking this beer.  It was one of my go to winter ale.  There is a nice balance but it is more of a sipping beer.  I just feel like this beer is a lot better than what I remember.  I have always love this beer. I just wished it had more love in this state.  This craft brewery is trying to gain some ground back in this state.  I am glad they are back and are trying to gain a base for themselves.  I highly recommend this beer.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

Cheers!

New Beer Blog Arbor Brewing Bliss Wheat Hefeweizen

image

In this beer blog, we are going to get into another brew from Arbor Brewing.  It is their German style Hefeweizen.  If you read my earlier beer blog posts on their beers, you know the history of this Ann Arbor base craft brewery.  If you have not, please, read them to get to know this Michigan craft brewery.  Let us get into this Hefeweizen.

It has a cloudy golden color with a white constant head. The smell has a yeast to wheat like notes. The taste has a heavy yeast and wheat and not much of banana and clove notes.   There is not much of the aftertaste. It is fate to me. It is pretty drinkable beer.

Here is a description from their website (www.arborbrewing.com):

Bliss Wheat – Arbor Brewing Company

Description

U.S. Open Beer Champion – named “Best Hefeweizen in America” by the Craft Beer News Service. Classic aromas of banana, clove and floral citrus blossom. Fruity, spicy aromas show a rich yeasty character that follows through on a smooth, medium-bodied palate with a delicately spicy finish.

History

This summer specialty is made with fifty percent malted wheat for a clean, light, refreshing character, plus a special Bavarian yeast that creates the classic cloudy appearance and banana, clove, and lemon character. To decant from the bottle, pour three-quarters of the bottle into a glass and gently shake the remaining contents to mix the yeast back into the beer and then top off your glass. Delicious with a slice of lemon but we prefer it au natural.

Our Bliss artwork features a lion (the symbol of Bavaria) front and center. We went with the striped tent and carnival scene in the background to bring together the great midwest summertime traditions of county fairs and amusement parks with Munich’s Oktoberfest – the mac daddy of all festivals signaling the end of summer.

In the end, I am huge fan of this beer style.  When I take a break from my porters, stouts, and IPA’s, I reach for a pale ale and or Hefeweizen.  I was pretty happy to see this beer released again.  I never had the chance to try this brew and I have been wanting to try this brew.  I had to pick up this season.  I am getting a heavy lemon notes.  There is not too much banana and clove notes.  I was pretty disappointed.  I can see others love this beer.  I am not a fan. There is better Hefeweizen on the market that is my thought pattern.  This beer has won awards.  Maybe, I picked up a bad bottle.  I recommend this beer either way.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

Cheers!
