In this beer blog, we are going to get into another brew from Arbor Brewing. It is their German style Hefeweizen. If you read my earlier beer blog posts on their beers, you know the history of this Ann Arbor base craft brewery. If you have not, please, read them to get to know this Michigan craft brewery. Let us get into this Hefeweizen.
It has a cloudy golden color with a white constant head. The smell has a yeast to wheat like notes. The taste has a heavy yeast and wheat and not much of banana and clove notes. There is not much of the aftertaste. It is fate to me. It is pretty drinkable beer.
U.S. Open Beer Champion – named “Best Hefeweizen in America” by the Craft Beer News Service. Classic aromas of banana, clove and floral citrus blossom. Fruity, spicy aromas show a rich yeasty character that follows through on a smooth, medium-bodied palate with a delicately spicy finish.
History
This summer specialty is made with fifty percent malted wheat for a clean, light, refreshing character, plus a special Bavarian yeast that creates the classic cloudy appearance and banana, clove, and lemon character. To decant from the bottle, pour three-quarters of the bottle into a glass and gently shake the remaining contents to mix the yeast back into the beer and then top off your glass. Delicious with a slice of lemon but we prefer it au natural.
Our Bliss artwork features a lion (the symbol of Bavaria) front and center. We went with the striped tent and carnival scene in the background to bring together the great midwest summertime traditions of county fairs and amusement parks with Munich’s Oktoberfest – the mac daddy of all festivals signaling the end of summer.
In the end, I am huge fan of this beer style. When I take a break from my porters, stouts, and IPA’s, I reach for a pale ale and or Hefeweizen. I was pretty happy to see this beer released again. I never had the chance to try this brew and I have been wanting to try this brew. I had to pick up this season. I am getting a heavy lemon notes. There is not too much banana and clove notes. I was pretty disappointed. I can see others love this beer. I am not a fan. There is better Hefeweizen on the market that is my thought pattern. This beer has won awards. Maybe, I picked up a bad bottle. I recommend this beer either way. Go get some! Drink it! Enjoy it! Metal it! \m/
In this summer beer blog, we are going to get into another brew from Great Lakes Brewery. It is the first seasonal with their new packaging. It is a new beer in their books. It is Sharpshooter Session Wheat IPA. If you read my earlier beer blog posts on their beers, you know the history of this Midwest craft brewery. If you have not, please, read them to get to know this craft brewery. Let us get into this beer.
It has a cloudy golden color with a white constant head. The smell has a nice welcoming orange notes. The taste has a citrus to orange notes. The aftertaste has an orange like finish that is not over bearing. It is pretty drinkable beer.
Here is a description from the beer bottle:
Inspired by Ohio’s “little sure shot” Annie Oakley, our Session Wheat IPA is peppered with rounds of whole Orange peel and fully loaded with Jarrylo hops.
In the end, I saw this coming down the pipeline. I thought Great Lakes Brewery was way behind the beer trends. I have to say they came up with something different than the rest of White IPA’s. I like it. It is not my go to as far as Summer seasonals. I have to say it is up with all the straight wheat ales and fruit beers that hit the market during the summer. With that all said, I was wrong. Great Lakes Brewery is seeing something that I did not see. I highly recommend this beer. Go get some! Drink it! Enjoy it! Metal it! \m/
In this beer blog, we are going to get into the summer seasonal from North Peak Brewery. It is their Archangel Summer Wheat. If you read my earlier beer blog posts on their beers, you know the history of this Michigan craft brewery. If you have not, please, read them to get to know this Midwest craft brewery. Let us get into this Wheat Ale.
It has a cloudy golden with a white constant head. The smell has a wheaty notes. The taste has a sweet cherry to tart notes. The aftertaste has a cherry like finish. It is pretty drinkable beer.
North Peak Archangel is an American Wheat Beer brewed with Michigan cherries. Subtly hopped with Perle and Vanguard hops, Archangel is refreshing, clean and crisp.
Ending, I have started to take a liking to this craft brewery of late. I just revisit all their beers after not liking them the first time. I am not a wheat fan but I love cherries and Michigan cherries. I like it. It is pretty tart at the backend. There is a nice balance and it is pretty refreshing brew. I will not go out of my way to get more of this brew. I will revisit it next season. I highly recommend beer. Go get some! Drink it! Enjoy it! Metal it! \m/
In this beer blog, we are going to sample the second brew from Cheboygan Brewery. It is their Blood Orange Wheat. If you read my beer blog posts on their Lemongrass Wheat a few days ago, you know the history of this Michigan craft brewery. If you have not, please, read to get to know Cheboygan Brewery. Let us get into this wheat.
It has a cloudy straw to a light golden color with a semi white head. The aroma has a heavy orange notes. The taste profile of this light to medium body has a wheat orange notes with a nice orange aftertaste. It is pretty drinkable beer.
A unique twist on a great American-style wheat beer, with the addition of fresh local wildflower honey mixed with blood orange zest, and blood orange puree. The result is a medium bodied beer that is very smooth with a residual sweetness, and creaminess from the honey, and an exhilierating nose of citrus from the orange. Ahh, summertime. 5.7% ABV
Closing, compare to the Lemongrass Wheat, this is not as good but it is still a solid beer. It is a great beer. I did not like this beer as much as I enjoyed their Lemongrass Wheat. I am not a huge fan of oranges and there is nothing wrong with it. This is why we have several different beer styles in the market. The orange notes are not overpowering the wheat ale. It is a nice refreshing beer. I highly recommend this beer. Go get some! Drink it! Enjoy it! Metal it! \m/
While at Ashley’s Westland, I had a chance to sample another brew from Flying Dog. It is their In Heat Wheat. It is a German Style Hefeweizen, which is quickly becoming one of my favorite beer styles. If you read my earlier beer blog post on their Doggy Style Pale Ale, you know the history of this East Coast Craft Brewery. If you have not, please, read to get to know Flying Dog Brewery. Let us get into the beer.
It has a cloudy golden color with out a head. It had a white head at first but disappeared pretty quickly. The aroma has notes of wheat, yeast, and banana. The drinking experience is light in body with light carbonated wheaty notes. The aftertaste is a nice banana notes finish that leaves the palate fast. It is pretty drinkable.
In the end, I am not a huge wheat beer fan but Hefeweizen has won me over. I love my porter, stouts, and India Pale Ales. For the longest, I have kept myself in the area of brews. Since I am writing and blogging now, I have been exploring more beer styles for reviews asides my favorite beer styles. The first thing I love about In Heat Wheat. It is a refreshing and a nice drinkable beer. I love the aroma and tasting experience. It has a nice banana notes. I highly recommend this brew. Go get some! Drink it! Enjoy it! Metal it! \m/
