New Beer Blog 21st Amendment Brewery Toaster Pastry India Red Ale

In this beer blog, we are getting into another beer from 21st Amendment Brewery. It is their Toaster Pastry India Red Ale. If you read my earlier beer blog posts on their beers, you know the history of this West Coast craft brewery. If you have not, please, read them to get to know this California base craft brewery. Let us get into this red IPA.

It has a clear red color with a white constant head. The aroma has a citrus with hints of nutty notes. The taste has a sweet malty to biscuit notes with a strawberry jam aftertaste. It is a sipping beer.

Our first beer out of our new brewery is an homage to its former life as a toaster pastry factory.

Biscuit malts give the beer a slightly nutty, crust-like flavor, while pale and dark Crystal malts create the mouthfeel and flavors reminiscent of strawberry jam. Calypso and other experimental hops give this ruby ale a welcome bite, plus a few more in the hop back for a toasty-sweet aroma.

In the end, I always love picking up new beers from this brewery. It does not matter what the craft brewery puts out. My last trip to Ohio, I was happy to see this beer on their shelves at Joseph Beverage Center. There is a nice balance on this beer. I like it. I do not think this brewery puts out a bad beer. New Beer Blog Cigar City Brewing Tocobaga Red Ale

in this beer blog, we are going to sample another brew from Cigar City Brewing. It is their Tocobaga Red Ale. If you read my earlier beer blog posts on their beers, you know the history of this Florida craft brewery. If you have not, please, read them to get to know Cigar City Brewery. Let us get into this red ale.

It has a clear red color with a constant white head. The smell has a sweet malty to slight and I mean very slight caramel notes. The taste has a sweet malty notes with a dry and slight bitter aftertaste. It is a pretty drinkable beer.

Tocobaga® | Cigar City Brewing

The Tocobaga lived off the bounty of Tampa Bay hundreds of years before the arrival of the Spanish in the 1500’s. They were potters, tool makers and the only Florida natives to grow maize. The large platform mounds they built are still with us today, with one of the largest found near Old Tampa Bay in Safety Harbor, Florida. Climb to the top, and with a little imagination, you can see Tampa Bay as they did.

Ending, I am not a fan of red and amber ales. I love trying new beers from around the world. I was happy to see this in my case that my friend brought back from his trip. There is some nice tasting notes that this beer gives you. I would not be upset if this is the only Cigar City beer that I get rest of my life. Cigar City Brewery makes some good beer and I love the back story of each of their beers. I highly recommend this beer. Go get some! Drink it! Enjoy it! \m/

New Beer Blog Short’s The Magician Dark Red London Style Ale

In this beer blog, we are going to get into another brew from the sampler pack from Short’s Brewing. It is their The Magician Dark Red London Style Ale. If you read my earlier beer blog posts on their beers, you know the history of this Michigan craft brewery. If you have not, please, read them to get to know this craft brewery. Let us get into this red ale.

It has a cloudy dark red to ruby red color with a nice white head. The aroma has a sweet malty to slight caramel notes. The taste has a very light carbonation with a dry sweet malty notes. The aftertaste has water like malt finish. It is pretty drinkable beer.

The Magician is a lustrous dark-red London Ale with a rich grain bill. The grain combination lends complex notes of toasted caramel, raisins, chocolate, and roasted toffee. Very light hop additions let the true malt characters show throughout this beer.

Closing, I have to say this is one of the better English style red ale from a craft brewery. I am pretty stun. This goes back to the arguments that I had in yesterday’s blog posts on their Dan’s Pink Skirt IPA. This brewery’s seasonal are so much better than their everyday beers. At least, this Michigan craft brewery makes some good beer unlike most craft breweries in this state. I love the balance in this red ale. I am not a huge fan of red and amber ales. I love my Fat Tire once in a while. If you can find this beer, go get some! Drink it! Enjoy it! Metal it! \m/

New Beer Blog Anchor Brewery Big Leaf Maple Autumn Red Ale (2014)

In this fall beer blog, we are going to get into Big Leaf Maple Autumn Red Ale from Anchor Brewery. If you read my earlier beer blog posts on their Anchor Brewing IPA post, you know the history of this craft brewery. If you have not, please, read it to get to know this west coast craft brewery. Let us get into this fall beer.

It has a nice clear red to amber color with a white head. The aroma has a sweet malt to hints of maple syrup. The taste has a carbonated malty to slight nutty notes. The aftertaste is a dry slight burned maple syrup to malty notes. It is pretty drinkable beer.

In closing, I was looking forward to trying this beer. I was pretty interested on how the maple syrup would go over with the red ale. I liked it. The aftertaste is pretty dry aftertaste. There is some nice flavor and some complex notes. I enjoyed drinking this beer. I might be picking up some more before the end of the season. There is so many fall seasonals that I want to get into. I like this beer if it was for dessert or a late night beer. I know there are some people that can drink this while they are tailgating. This is a great beer. I recommend it. Go get some! Drink it! New Beer Blog Blue Point Imperial Red Ale

In this beer blog, we are going to sample another beer from Blue Point Brewery. It is their Imperial Red Ale that they brew for Ashley’s Ann Arbor and Westland for their 30th Anniversary. Ashley’s Bar is a nice craft bar with 48 taps and over 100 bottles. They had several craft breweries around the country brewing a special beer for their celebration. If you read my earlier beer blog posts on their beers, you know the history of Blue Point Brewery. If you have not, please, read those beer blog posts to get to know this East Coast Craft Brewery. Let us get into this beer.

It has a clear red or amber color with a nice white constant head. The aroma has hoppy malty like a sweet hoppy candy notes. The taste is a sweet malty notes with a lightly carbonated notes. Aftertaste has malty dry finish. It does not last long. It is pretty drinkable beer.

In closing, how can I go wrong with this brew. I have my favorite craft beer bar and one of my favorite craft breweries. I am not a huge fan of Red Ales. I was pretty impressed with this beer. I have to say this beer aged pretty well. This red ale has a big hop bite with a nice drinkable malty backbone finish. I love the aroma to the taste and the color. New Beer Blog Sixpoint Brewery Global Warmer

In this beer blog, we are going to sample another brew from Sixpoint Brewery. It is their new winter seasonal, which is Global Warmer. If you read my earlier beer blog posts, you know the history of this brewery. If you have not, please, read my earlier beer blog post to get to know this great New York City brewery. It has a cloudy amber color with foamy white head on this winter ale. The smell is notes of citrus and malty. The taste is a citrus to malty notes with a dry bitter hoppy aftertaste. It is kind of drinkable beer.

In the end, as many of you readers know I am a huge fan of this brewery. I believe they are one of the best breweries out of New York City. I never had Bronx Brewery and they are on my list to try in the future. I love Blue Point out of Long Island. Sixpoint tries to push the limits of beer brewing that is what I love about this brewery. I am not a fan of red ales but I have to say this brew is pretty good. I love the hop character that lives in this beer. The other red ale that I like is from Bridgeport Brewery and it is called Kingpin Red Ale. I highly recommend this brew. Go get some! Drink it! Enjoy it! Metal it! \m/

New Beer Blog Revolution Brewing Fistmas

In this beer blog, we are going to get into one of many winter seasonal. I am talking about Revolution Brewing Fistmas. I had a chance to try it when I was visiting in Chicago over a few weekends ago. If you read my earlier beer blog posts on Revolution Brewing’s beers, you know the history of this brewery. It has a dark copper color with a constant white head. The smell is a heavy citrus. The taste is a slight carbonated ginger with citrus. The aftertaste is a hint of ginger. It is not really drinkable.

Ending, in the last few years, I have not been overall impressed with many winter seasonals. I am hoping this year is the turning point for winter seasonals. I have to say this brew is a pretty good start. It might not be drinkable but it is pretty enjoyable for the time it is in your glass. I love the smelling notes to the tasting. There is a ton going on in this brew and it is a good thing for a winter and/or Christmas ale. If you are in the Chicago area, I recommend you trying this brew. New Beer Blog Big Horn Ram Tap Party Wheeling

In this tap party blog, we are going to sample out another beer release from the Big Horn Brewery in Wheeling. The beer is called Rabbit Punch Irish Red Ale. If you read my earlier blog on their beers, you know the history of this brewery. If you have not, please, read that beer blog. Let us get into the beer.

This beer has a deep reddish-brown color with a white constant head on it. The smell is a sweet caramel to the beer. The taste of the Rabbit Punch Irish Red Ale is a sweet carbonation caramel to a touch of toffee with a caramel aftertaste. It is a sessional beer.

A reddish-amber ale with roots in Ireland characterized by its malt profile including caramel and a toffee-like sweetness. Alcohol by volume is about 5.15%.

Bourbon BBQ Meatloaf Sandwich

In closing, I am not a red ale fan but this beer is not bad. I did enjoy this beer and I will have a few pints when it is around. The food was really good. I am not a meatloaf fan but this was pretty good. If you are a fan of red ales, you need to try this beer. I believe you will enjoy drinking this beer and it does have a flare of the Irish Red Ale feel. Most craft breweries normally miss that part of this beer style. I also like the fact it is ale this year and not a lager. It has a nice malty backbone and not overly hopped like most red ales. These brewers did a great job and you need to support them. New Beer Blog Coalition Brewing King Kitty Red Ale

When in Portland, I picked up this bottle from Coalition Brewing. After we were done with Brewvana, a few of us went out and check out a few more breweries. Coalition Brewing is a small brewpub on a side streets of Portland. There is no history on the internet on this brewery. They only have three beers that they put in 22oz bottles and this is one of them. The rest of them they will fill up growlers for you. This is the only beer I had and I fall in love with it. Let us get into the beer.

This beer has a nice red color with a white head on it. It has a slight malty to caramel smell to the beer. The taste is a sweet malty carbonation with a slight bitter aftertaste. It is q pretty drinkable beer.

Closing out, I am not a fan of red or amber ales but this one is done very well. I enjoy drinking this beer and I am down to one more bottle in my frig, which I am saving a little bit longer. I do not know when I will get back out but I will be back at this little brewpub. If you live in the Portland area, go and check out this brewery. I am glad I stopped in and had a pint.
