New Beer Blog Lagunitas Nighttime (Cask Ale)

While at the Michigan Cask Ale Fest, we are going to sample Nighttime Ale from Lagunitas.  This is the first this beer made it to Michigan.  It is in a Cask Barrel.  This is the true form and best way to drink beers.  If you read my earlier beer blog posts on this west coast and midwest craft brewery, you know the history of this brewery.  If you have not, please, read them to get to know this Lagunitas Brewery.  Let us get into this beer.

It has a nice dark brown color with a nice white creamy head.   The aroma has slight chocolate to earthy notes.  The taste has a chocolate, earthy, and alcohol notes with nice alcohol burn bite for the aftertaste.  It is a sipping beer.

In the end, I had a great time at Ashley’s Westland for their Cask Ale Fest.  I was pretty excited to see this beer and had a chance to talk to the brewery rep.  I was spoiled living in Chicago for many years.  There beers were everywhere.  Here in Michigan, I have a hard time finding their beers in the bars.  I have no problem finding their beers in liquor stores. I have a go to store. I love my black IPA’s and I had to jump on this beer.  I did not know how long this beer would last during the event.  I had this beer in package before but this time it was in a cask barrel.  I have to say the color is a little lighter and better.  I really enjoyed this beer and I will be looking for it in bottle here soon.  I highly recommend this beer. New Beer Blog New Holland Brewery Imperial Hatter India Pale Ale

In this beer blog, we are going to sample Imperial Hatter India Pale from New Holland Brewery.  If you read my earlier beer blog posts on their Winter Seasonal, which is Cabin Fever, you know the history of this Michigan craft brewery.  If you have not, please read it to get to know this Western Michigan craft brewery.  Let us get into this Imperial IPA.

It has a cloudy dark copper with a constant white head.  The aroma has a heavy grapefruit notes.  The taste has a heavy grapefruit notes with a dry malty and hop bitter aftertaste.  It is a nice sipping beer.

This is my second New Holland brewery beer review on this blog.  I have had several of their beers.  They are good beers but I just feel there are better brews out there.  I am a huge hophead and I saw this brew when I was beer shopping.  I thought sure why not.   I love the hops they picked.  I was pretty excited about it.  I have to say I am pretty impressed.  It is better then rest of the beers I have had from them.  I will going to have to retry their beers again in the near future.  I love the hops and nice malty backbone.  The backbone is a little weak but strong enough to live with the bold hop selection.  I highly recommend this beer and I would love to hear your thoughts.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Beer Blog Wells Sticky Toffee Pudding Ale

In this beer blog, we are going to sample out Sticky Toffee Pudding Ale from Wells Brewery.  Wells brewery was founded in 1875 by Charlies Wells.  Wells Brewery merged with Young’s in early part of 2000’s and it is now known as Wells and Young’s Brewery Company today.  Let us get into this beer.

It has an amber color with a white color. The aroma has a heavy sweet toffee candy notes.  The taste has a sweet funky malty notes with a toffee aftertaste.  It is a sipping beer.

Dessert please, I like to try different beers and I love my desert beers.  I am a huge fan of their Banana Bread Beer.  I love drinking it in the fall to break up all the Pumpkin and Oktoberfest brews.  I will be adding this beer to that list during the fall but I will have a few of this brew and their Banana Bread Ale before fall.  This beer is good and I enjoyed it very much.  I was a little disappointed.  I was expecting something pretty sweet but I still loved it.  I highly recommend this beer.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Beer Blog Stone Saison Ale

In this beer blog, we are going to sample a new brew from Stone Brewery.  It is their Saison Ale and it is just in time for the warm weather around the country.  If you read my earlier beer blog posts, you know the history of this west coast brewery.  If you have not, please, read them to get to know this craft brewery.  Let us get into this new Saison Ale.

It has a bright clear golden color with a white constant head.  The aroma has a heavy lemon to citrus notes.  The taste of this refreshing Saison has a light carbonation with a lemon to citrus notes.  The aftertaste has a pepper finish.  It is a drinkable beer.

In closing, I cannot think of a bad or not a good beer released from Stone Brewery Company.  They are just like Sierra Nevada.  This is a different pace for this brewery that is known for their IPA’s.  I was pretty excited and happy to see this on the shelves at my local beer store.  This is a different version of the classic beer style.  I love the refreshing citrus notes with the awesome black pepper finish.  I believe that makes this beer special is the aftertaste.  I love the fact that they brew this for their farm that the Stone Brewery owns.  It is a good back story.  I highly recommend this beer.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Beer Blog Rodenbach Flemish Red-Brown Ale

In this beer blog, we are going to sample out import beer.  It is Rodenbach Flemish Red-Brown Ale.  Rodenbach was named after the four Rodenbach brothers that founded this small brewery in 1821.  It remained in the family until 1998 when it was sold to Palm Brewery Company.  It is located in Roeselare, Belgium.  They mainly brew sour beers.  They are famous for this beer style and well-known for it.  Let us get into this beer classic.

It has a dark red color with white head that disappears over time.  The aroma has a sweet but slight hint of sour malty notes.  The taste has a strong malt forward with a sour bitter aftertaste.  It is a nice sipping beer.

In the end, this is a beer style that you will need to build yourself up to enjoy it.  It is like the world of IPA’s.  You are going to either love or hate it.  Once you like it.  You will keep coming back for more and searching for new sours or IPA’s.  I know if I give this beer to a mass-produced beer drinker or a new craft beer drinker.  They will not like it and say it is not beer.  This is a very special beer style.  I love this brew.  This is the best sour on the market and the world. There are breweries that coming pretty close to this sour.  It will never be pasted over.  I highly recommend this beer and the rest of their sours.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Beer Blog Sierra Nevada Harvest Single Hop IPA

In this beer blog, we are going to get into one of five special IPA’s from Sierra Nevada.  It is part of their Harvest Series that will be release through out the year. It is their Single Hop IPA.  It is using a special hop, which is Yakima hop #291.  If you read my earlier beer blog posts, you know the history of this craft brewery.  If you have not read my earlier beer blog posts, please, read them to get to know Sierra Nevada Brewery.  Let us get into this beer.

This India Pale Ale has a clear copper color with a nice creamy like white head on it.  The aroma has a nice welcoming floral notes.  The taste has a light carbonation and blueberry notes.  The aftertaste has nice a nice hop bitter kick but hints of black pepper.  It is kind of drinkable but more of a sipping India Pale Ale.

Ending, this was an awesome brew.  Sierra Nevada, once again, has out did themselves.  They put some thought and used the hop in the right way.  I love the unique hop aroma and taste profile this beer kicks off.  I was a little taking back on the notes from the aroma and taste.  The aftertaste of black pepper and aroma of berry like notes is unique and different.  I laugh at people saying this brewery is one trick pony.  This is a pretty balance beer with a ton flavor.  I really enjoying it and I highly highly recommend this beer.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Beer Blog Sierra Nevada Blindfold Black IPA

In this beer blog, we are going to get into the new Sampler pack from Sierra Nevada.  It is called 4-Way IPA. The sampler pack has Blindflold Black IPA, Snow Wit IPA, Torpedo IPA, and Nooner IPA.  If you read my earlier beer blog posts on their beers, you know the history of this west coast craft brewery.  If you have not, please, read them to get to know their beers that I review and know the history of this brewery.  Let us sample out this Black IPA.

It has a jet black color with a tan head on this black IPA.  The aroma has a chocolate to slight coffee with a citrus notes.  The taste has a creamy chocolate with a hint of citrus notes.  The aftertaste is a dry bitter finish.  It is a sipping beer.

Closing, I believe this craft brewery does not get the credit they should today unlike they did back when they first started.  Their beers are very underrated.  I love their Pale Ale and I believe most just think of Sierra Nevada as one beer brewery.  This is so not true. They make an awesome stout and porter.  I have not even put the words about their IPA.  Their everyday IPA is one of my favorites and it is very underrated.  I knew I was in good hands when I saw this 4 way IPA Pack in the store.  I did not stop and thinking about it.  I just grab it and went home and try them.  The first one I tried was this Black IPA.  This beer style is hopheads wet dream.  I have had several Black IPA’s in my time.  I love how this one is creamy unlike the other ones I had.  It is not drinking and most are not drinkable.  It is a nice relaxing beer.  I love it and I recommend this brew and sampler pack.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Beer Blog Atwater Beer Hop A Peel Ale

In this beer blog, we are going to sample Hop A Peel Ale from Atwater Brewery.  If you read my earlier beer blog posts, you know the history of this Detroit Craft Brewery.  If you have not read those posts, please, read them to get to know this brewery along the Detroit River.  Let us get into this American IPA.

This American IPA has a cloudy amber color with a constant white head on this ale.  The aroma has a citrus to orange notes.  The tasting profile has a dry hoppy to bitter notes.  The aftertaste is very dry and bitter that hangs out too long for my liking.  It should be drinkable but to me it is sipping.

In closing, I have try and retry most of their beers.  I have to say overall that I really disappointed.  I love their Java Vanilla Porter.  Their version of the classic beer style, which is India Pale Ale is pretty bad and disappointed.   I do not know why I thought this American IPA would be any different.  The malty backbone is very weak just like their Grand Circus IPA.  The taste has nothing to what the name of beer and the description from bottle and website. The aroma does but the taste is like their Grand Circus IPA.  It is water hop taste with alcohol.  It is not a good beer. Please, let me know what you think of this beer.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Beer Blog Ommengang Games of Thrones Take The Black Stout (Age A Year)

In a fantasy world, we are going to sample the second beer from Ommengang Brewery and Games of Thornes. If you read my earlier beer blog posts on their beers, you know the history of this craft brewery. If you have not read them, please, do so to get to know craft brewery. Let us get into Take The Black Stout.

This stout has a jet black color with a nice constant tan head.  The aroma has a roasted chocolate notes.  The taste has a sweet chocolate with a hint of creamy caramel with a nice chocolate dry aftertaste.  It is a nice sipping stout.

A stout as dark as the winters that once engulfed Westeros. As robust as the men who swear their oaths at the Weirwood Tree. Chocolate and caramel sweetness are balanced by hop bitterness roasty, woodsy notes, and an earthy finish.

In closing, I brought two bottles when it was released.  I had the one right away and I just saved this bottle for a raining day.  I wanted to share my thoughts on this brew.  I am a huge fan of the show.  I was really disappointed with the first release.  This was something else.  I love the story behind the Night’s Watch.  I have to say Ommegang Brewery went up and beyond making this beer good.  I love the creamy chocolate and notes caramel.  It is a nice beer to have after dinner or a sipping beer while relaxing. I aged this bottle for a year from when I picked it up. It held up really well and it did not change in the bottle. I was pretty disappointed with that but it is still an awesome beer. Good Job! New Beer Blog Oddside Derelicte Pineapple IPA

In this beer blog, we are going to get into the first beer, which is Pineapple IPA, from Oddside Brewery.  Oddside Brewery was founded in Grand Haven, Michigan in 2010.  There goal is brew unique beers that will push the limits of the craft beer drinkers.  Let us get into the beer.

It has a clear copper color with constant white head on this India Pale Ale.  The aroma has a nice mild pineapple notes. The taste has a light carbonated pineapple notes with a dry hoppy dry bitter finish.  The finish hangs around a bit.  It is kind of drinkable to a sipping brew.

Closing, as many of us in Michigan, we are just getting around trying Oddside beers.  I have to say this is one of my favorite beers from them.  I am really love the pineapple notes how it shapes around the hops.  It is a nice sipping to semi drinkable beer.  The bitterest is not over the top but it is still there.  The pineapple and the well designed malty backbone cuts right through hops.  I really love this brew.  I highly recommend this beer.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/
