New Beer Blog Petoskey Brewing Horny Monk Belgium Style Ale

In this beer blog, we are going to get into another brew from Petoskey Brewing.  It is their flagship beer, which is Horny Monk.  If you read my earlier beer blog posts on their beers, you know the history of this Michigan base craft brewery.  If you have not, please, read them to get to know this Midwest craft brewery.  Let us get into this beer.

It has a clear amber to light brown color with a white constant head.  The aroma has a slight malty notes. The taste has a sweet Belgium malty notes with a dry slight nutty aftertaste. It is extremely drinkable beer.

A deep reddish, malty, and complex Belgian style ale. Six different types of malted barley, Belgian candied syrup and Belgian yeast are combined to produce a very smooth, complex and slightly sweet ale.

In the end, I can see why so many people love this beer and drink a ton of it.  It is smooth and nice drinkable beer.  To me, this does not seem like Abbey Dubbel.  It is more like a Belgian single with a ton of malt base.  This is a great beer either way.  I am not a brewer just a guy that loves beer and studies it.  It does not has alcohol burn like other Belgium Abbey Dubbel. It is light body.  It is like a session Abbey.  I love this beer.  I highly recommend this beer.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Beer Blog Oddside Ales NIHILIST Barrel Aged Double India Pale Ale

In this beer blog, we are going to get into a limited release from Oddside Ales.  It is their NIHILIST Barrel Aged Double India Pale Ale.  If you read my earlier beer blog posts on their beers, you know the history of this Michigan craft brewery.  If you have not, please, read them to get to know this Midwest craft brewery.  Let us get into this Double IPA.

It has a cloudy dark copper color with a white constant head. The aroma has a citrus to oak to slight vanilla notes. The taste has a vanilla to citrus notes with citrus to to whiskey notes for the aftertaste. It is a nice drinkable beer.

Closing, the barrel over took the beer.  I was able to taste a little of the IPA.  I like this beer but if you are looking for a little bit more of the IPA, you are not going to find it.  Once you starting using golden to copper beers in barrel.  You will get a mix of good and bad.  Overall, this is a great beer and I loved it.  I cannot see the price that I paid.  I highly recommend this beer.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Beer Blog Shiner Wicked Ram IPA

In this beer blog, we are going to get into a new brew from Shiner Brewery.  The little brewery can do it.  It is their Wicked Ram IPA.  This is the first IPA that is being made by a traditional German brewery.   If you read my earlier beer blog posts on their beers, you know the history of this Texas craft brewery.  If you have not, please, read them to get to know this craft brewery.  Let us get into this IPA.

It has a golden to light copper color with a white constant head. The aroma has a piney like notes. The taste has a earthy to piney notes with a dry hop bitter aftertaste. It is pretty drinkable beer.

Closing, I am a pretty big fan of this craft brewery.  I love the rich history of Shiner.  It is in a little town and this little brewery in the middle of it.  I do not understand why people do not like this brewery in Michigan.  This is a great brewery.  I was happy a few years back that they were going to get into the ale market.  I was pretty excited to see them making an IPA.  I like it but it is a nice beginner IPA. Asides that, a brewery that was making all lagers did a great job on their first IPA.  I will be adding this to my IPA rotation.  I highly recommend this beer.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Beer Blog Cheboygan Blueberry Cream Ale

In this beer blog, we are going to get into another brew from Cheboygan Brewery.  It is their Blueberry Cream Ale.  If you read my earlier beer blog posts on their beers, you know the history of this Michigan base craft brewery.  If you have not, please, read them to get to know this Midwest craft brewery.  Let us get into this Cream Ale.

It has a slightly cloudy golden color with a white head at first. It disappears over time. The smell has a heavy blueberry notes. The taste of this light body has a sweet blueberry notes with a sweet blueberry aftertaste. It is extremely drinkable beer.

Closing, I enjoy their beers but I do not go out of my way to find their brews.  I normally get some beer when my friend visits the brewery.  I am guarantee to get the product fresh.  I am a little worried with the beer in the beer stores by me.  This beer is extremely drinkable beer.  It is smooth and easy to drink as the classic beer style was designed.  I am not a fan but I can see people liking this beer.  It is well designed and well made beer.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Beer Blog Cranker’s Brewery Fifth Voyage Coconut Porter

In this beer blog, we are going to get into the second beer from Cranker’s Brewery.  If you read my earlier post on their IPA, you know the history of this Michigan craft brewery.  If you have not, please, read it to get to know this upcoming craft brewery.  Let us get into porter.

It has a jet black color with a constant tan head. The aroma has a chocolate to coconut notes. The taste has a slight coconut notes with a dry coconut aftertaste. It is more of a sipping beer, however, I can see people drinking this as a drinkable beer.

The 5th Voyage is a refreshing and easy drinking Porter meant to be drank in any season. Fresh coconut and chocolate flavors immediately standout, but rich roasted malt quickly takes over for a flavorful finish.

In the end, is it just me or is it a little weird to have a Michigan craft brewery making a coconut porter?  I guess it is not as weird as it would be about six to seven years ago.  There is not too many coconut porter on the market.  The coconut notes are not overpowering in this porter.  To me, this is a sipping beer.  I am not a fan of this beer. I love Maui Coconut Porter. It is one that I will compare any coconut porter.  I still recommend this beer.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Beer Blog Short’s Brew Yosemite Scooter Pale Ale

In this beer, we are going to get into another brew from Short’s Brewing.  It is Yosemite Scooter Pale Ale.  If you read my earlier beer blog posts on the beers, you know the history of this Midwest craft brewery.  If you have not, please, read them to get to know this Michigan craft brewery.  Let us get into this pale ale.

It has a cloudy golden color with a white constant head.  The smell has a heavy citrus notes. The taste has a citrus notes with a dry bitter aftertaste. It is kind of drinkable beer.

Yosemite Scooter is a lighter bodied American Pale Ale with a dirty blonde color and delightful aromas of bright zesty orange, mango, and rich sticky hops. Excellent hop flavors of citrus fruit and berries blast across the palate, along with a mild earthiness. Succeeded by a moderate bitterness, the beer has a lingering fruit, rind-like quality with traces of pine.

65 IBU

Ending, I love my IPA’s and pale ales.  I was happy to see this beer in their sampler pack.  i have had this beer in the past. I enjoyed them. This beer is not how I remember it.  There is not a balance in this beer.  For a pale ale, it is not drinkable like the other pale ales on the market.  I am not a fan. How many pale ales do you need? This is the question that I need to ask this craft brewery.  I would recommend this beer to try at least once.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Beer Blog Bell’s Two Hearted Ale

In this beer blog, we are going to get into the flagship beer of  Bell’s Brewery.  It is their Two Hearted IPA.  If you read my earlier beer blog posts on their beers, you know the history of this Midwest craft brewery.  If you have not, please, read them to get to know this Michigan craft brewery.  Let us get into this IPA.

It has a cloudy golden color with a white constant head. The aroma has a heavy citrus notes. The taste has a carbonation citrus with a dry bitter aftertaste. It is pretty drinkable.

In the end, I have no idea why everyone goes nuts over this beer.  It is a good IPA but it is not best one.  Every bar that I go into now it is always on draft.  I am sorry there are some other IPA’s.  I try not drinking this beer to send a message.  I had this time to revisit it.  I have to say it is not my favorite IPA but I can respect it. Is this the best IPA? To me, Hell No! There are better IPA’s on the market.  I recommend it.  I am pretty sick of looking at it now.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Beer Blog Bell’s Best Brown Ale

In this fall beer blog, we are going to get into another brew from Bell’s Brewery.  It is their famous Best Brown Ale.  If you read my earlier beer blog posts on their beers, you know the history of this Michigan craft brewery.  If you have not, please, read them to get to know this Midwest craft brewery.  Let us get into this brown ale.

It has a cloudy dark brown color with a tan color head. The smell has a sweet malty with nutty notes. The taste has a smooth malty notes with a nutty aftertaste. It is a nice drinkable fall beer.

Closing, I have always pick up a six pack of this beer every year.  This is one of the few beers that I go out of my way to pick up from this brewery.  They did a great job on making this beer.  It is a nice and smooth.  This is a great brew for the fall day or first winter snow of the winter.  I highly recommend this beer.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Beer Blog Short’s Twist Of Cain Black Lager

It has a jet black color with creamy tan head that disappears over time. The smell has a chocolate to coffee notes. The taste has a chocolate to hints of coffee. The aftertaste has a dry crisp chocolate notes. It is kind of drinkable beer.

Twist of Cain is a pitch black lager with notable aromas of roast, molasses and hints of sweet chocolate. Intense flavors of rich sugary malt and dark fruit resonate with a big coating sweetness. Coupled with a cocoa like bitterness, all of the flavors seem to linger equally and dry the palate.

Closing, everyone knows how I feel about this beer but they have some good beer.  They are just far and between.  They make way too many seasonals but I see it is by design.  They are attacking craft beer drinkers in a way they do their shopping.  This beer is one of the good ones.  It is smooth but has some nice flavor.  It is pretty average but I wish this beer was everyday. Shiner Black is still king for me but I will search this out if I was looking for a Michigan craft.  I recommend this beer.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Beer Blog Bell’s Expedition Stout

In this beer blog, we are going to get into another brew from Bell’s Brewery.  It is their Expedition Stout, which is Imperial Russian Stout.  If you read my earlier beer blog posts on their beers, you know the history of this Midwest craft brewery.  If you have not, please, read them to get to know this Michigan craft brewery.  Let us get into this stout.

It has a jet black color with a tan constant head. The aroma has a heavy rich chocolate to coffee notes. The taste has a smooth chocolate milkshake to coffee notes with a nice chocolate to coffee aftertaste. It is a nice sipping beer.

One of the earliest examples of the Russian Imperial Stout in the United States, Expedition Stout offers immensely complex flavors crafted specifically with vintage aging in mind, as its profile will continue to mature and develop over the years. Closing, every year, I go out of my way to find this beer.  I love my Imperial Russian Stouts.  I do not believe that I had a bad one.  It is a pretty heavy beer and perfect for a fall to winter days.  This is a good beer to warm you up in the coldest days.  This is a sipping beer but it still has some nice balance.  I love this beer. I bet you could age this beer.  I am going to start aging a six pack this year.  I want to see how well it will hold up.  I highly recommend this beer.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/
