New Beer Blog Bell’s Expedition Stout

In this beer blog, we are going to get into another brew from Bell’s Brewery.  It is their Expedition Stout, which is Imperial Russian Stout.  If you read my earlier beer blog posts on their beers, you know the history of this Midwest craft brewery.  If you have not, please, read them to get to know this Michigan craft brewery.  Let us get into this stout.

It has a jet black color with a tan constant head. The aroma has a heavy rich chocolate to coffee notes. The taste has a smooth chocolate milkshake to coffee notes with a nice chocolate to coffee aftertaste. It is a nice sipping beer.

Here is a description from their website (

One of the earliest examples of the Russian Imperial Stout in the United States, Expedition Stout offers immensely complex flavors crafted specifically with vintage aging in mind, as its profile will continue to mature and develop over the years. A huge malt body is matched to a heady blend of chocolate, dark fruits, and other aromas. Intensely bitter in its early months, the flavors will slowly meld and grow in depth as the beer ages.

Closing, every year, I go out of my way to find this beer.  I love my Imperial Russian Stouts.  I do not believe that I had a bad one.  It is a pretty heavy beer and perfect for a fall to winter days.  This is a good beer to warm you up in the coldest days.  This is a sipping beer but it still has some nice balance.  I love this beer. I bet you could age this beer.  I am going to start aging a six pack this year.  I want to see how well it will hold up.  I highly recommend this beer.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/
