New Beer Blog Petoskey Brewing Hopsessed Double IPA

In this beer blog, we are going to get into a special release from Petoskey Brewing.  It is their Hopsessed Double IPA.  If you read my earlier beer blog posts on their beers, you know the history of this Michigan base craft brewery.  If you have not, please, read them to get to know this Midwest craft brewery.  Let us get into this double IPA.

It has a clear copper color with a white constant head. The aroma has a citrus with hints of passion fruit notes. The taste has a citrus notes with a passion fruit and dry hop bitter aftertaste.  It is a sipping beer.

Hold on to your taste buds & make sure you have a designated driver! This mouth-exploding double I.P.A. starts with the unique citrus aroma provided by a 100% Simcoe dry hop. The high bitterness is slightly toned down by the caramel sweetness imparted by the large quantities of malted barley needed to achieve such a high ABV. (Limited time only!)

Closing, this is by far my favorite double IPA.  I love the malty backbone and how the hops blend in with it.  They did a great job on balance.  It might come across as 119 IBU but it does not drink like that.  It is still a sipping beer but drinkable in that beer style.  I love it.  This is so much better than Bell’s Hopslam.  I believe people try this beer.  They will realize that statement.  I highly highly recommend this beer.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Beer Blog Petoskey Brewing Sparkle Lager

In this beer blog, we are going to get into another brew from Petoskey Brewing.  It is their Sparkle Lager.  If you read my earlier beer blog posts on their beers, you know the history of this Michigan base craft brewery.  If you have not, please, read them to get to know this Midwest craft brewery.  Let us get into this lager.

It has a clear golden color without a head. There is not any aroma notes. The taste has a sweet corn notes with a crisp dry aftertaste. It is a extremely drinkable beer.

Sparkle American Lager

Our homage to the original “Petoskey Sparkle” brewed by Petoskey Brewing from 1898 until 1915. Wheat and four special malts combine with three different types of hops to create a super clean, easy drinking lager.

Closing, this beer was brewed under the original Petoskey Brewery.  The fun fact is they are in the same building as original Petoskey Brewery.  They took the original recipe and brought it up to the modern time.  This beer taste and smells like it did back in the day.  This is what I was told by the brewery.  They did a great job honoring this beer.  It is just like any North American Adjunct Lager.  It is lighter than Bud Light and other light beers.  It is not a light beer to them.  This is perfect summer beer.  I just wished it was in a 12oz cans.  I like it.  I highly recommend this beer.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it! New Beer Blog Petoskey Brewing Horny Monk Belgium Style Ale

In this beer blog, we are going to get into another brew from Petoskey Brewing.  It is their flagship beer, which is Horny Monk.  If you read my earlier beer blog posts on their beers, you know the history of this Michigan base craft brewery.  If you have not, please, read them to get to know this Midwest craft brewery.  Let us get into this beer.

It has a clear amber to light brown color with a white constant head.  The aroma has a slight malty notes. The taste has a sweet Belgium malty notes with a dry slight nutty aftertaste. It is extremely drinkable beer.

A deep reddish, malty, and complex Belgian style ale. Six different types of malted barley, Belgian candied syrup and Belgian yeast are combined to produce a very smooth, complex and slightly sweet ale.
6.9% ABV, 20 IBU

In the end, I can see why so many people love this beer and drink a ton of it.  It is smooth and nice drinkable beer.  To me, this does not seem like Abbey Dubbel.  It is more like a Belgian single with a ton of malt base.  This is a great beer either way.  I am not a brewer just a guy that loves beer and studies it.  It does not has alcohol burn like other Belgium Abbey Dubbel. It is light body.  It is like a session Abbey.  I love this beer.  I highly recommend this beer.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Beer Blog Petoskey Brewing Mind’s Eye PA India Pale Ale

We are going to sample Petoskey Brewing for the first time on this beer blog.  We are to get into their Mind’s Eye PA India Pale Ale. Petoskey Brewing was founded 1898.  They stopped making beer in 1915.  Since 1915 to 2012, it was used as retail space and warehouse.  In 2012, Patrick Dowd and Lou Gostinger became new owners of the “Old Brewery.”  They redid the brewery and began flowing beer from the “Old Brewery.”  This might be an old building but this is a young and upcoming craft brewery from Michigan.  Let us get into this IPA.

It has a clear copper color with a white constant head. The carbonation is a lot in this beer. The beer drinker will need to be careful with it. The aroma has a nice citrus and slight caramel notes. The taste has a nice sweet caramel, malty, and citrus notes. The aftertaste has a dry bitter and slight caramel finish. It is pretty drinkable beer.

Closing, I am due to travel this great state to check out all the brewpubs and craft breweries.  I will say this brewery is on the list.  I have to give a huge shoot out to my friend Bill for bring me a few cans back of this brew.  Let us talk about this beer.  First thing that I like, it is in cans and I know most people around do not like their beers in cans.  Bottles are nice but they do not do a good job of protecting the beer from sun light and oxygen.  The beer itself has a color tone that invites beer drinker to drink it.  This is pretty good IPA. It is not one of my favorite brew but I will drink it again.  I will drink it again to help a Michigan craft brewery that has some promise.  I highly recommend this beer.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/
