New Beer Blog Brooklyn Dry Irish Stout

In this beer blog, Brooklyn Brewery Dry Irish Stout is a new spring seasonal from this great traditional beer styles brewery.  If you read my earlier beer blog, you know the history of this brewery.  If you have not read that beer blog post, please, read the first part of that beer blog.  Let us get into this new brew from Brooklyn Brewery.

This stout has a jet black color with a white head on the beer. The smell is a heavy chocolate with coffee to it. The taste is a dry chocolate with a dry chocolate burn aftertaste. It is kind of drinkable beer.

Brooklyn Dry Irish Stout is a very dark beer, but don’t let the color fool you.  In Ireland, stouts were originally brewed to be “session beers” that were light enough to stick with a long evening, but flavorful enough to be fun to drink.  We use large amounts of roasted grains to develop nice coffee and chocolate flavors and the famed East Kent Golding hop lends to the earthy aroma.  It’s brisk enough to pair with oysters, but bold enough to handle a burger.

The Irish Stout beer style was once produced by dozens of breweries in Ireland. These days it is only produced by three major breweries in Ireland, none of them Irish-owned, though several small breweries and brewpubs make stout as well. These beers were originally designed as “session pints”, a term denoting beers that one can stick with for a long evening. These days, the major producers of Irish Stout dissolve nitrogen into the beer to produce the trademark head, a practice that started in 1960.

Brooklyn Irish Stout is brewed the old-fashioned way, without the nitrogen addition. A large portion of the grain is roasted like coffee beans, developing the typical color and flavor of this beer. Aside from British pale malts, the beer includes caramel malts, black patent malt, unmalted black barley and a proportion of flaked raw barley, which helps the beer develop a beautiful, thick natural head. The famous East Kent Golding hop lends to the earthy aroma. The beer is neither filtered, nor fined and has a light, brisk carbonation. The blend of grains gives the beer an espresso-like bite, followed by coffee and chocolate flavors. At 4.7% ABV, this is among the lightest beers we make, and one of our favorites. Closing out, Brooklyn Brewery has hit a home run Jackie Robinson style with this new brew.  It is everything you expect out of a stout.  This brew is strong and bold but yet soft enough that the beer drinker can enjoy it during the St. Patty’s Day.  It also comes with a ton of flavor and that is what the beer drinker wants from their craft beers.  This beer also shows the future of the craft beer world.  You are asking what am I talking about?  It is pretty simple.  The craft beer world is going back to more classic beer styles then the over hop that hints the errors of the brewmasters.  I am not saying that those beers will not be made.  They will be made.  With new beer drinkers entering the craft beers, these classic beers will be selling like crazy and brewers and breweries will look at that to make their bottom line profitable.  This is a great debate for the future.  I highly recommend you trying this beer and please put down the Guinness because this is a pretty good beer.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Beer Blog Sea Dog Hazelnut Porter

In this beer blog, we are going to get into another beer from Sea Dog Brewery and the beer is called Hazelnut Porter.  If you read my beer blog post from yesterday, you know the history of this brewery.  If you have not read that beer blog post, please, read it to get up to speed on this brewery.  Let us get into the beer.

It has a dark deep brown color without a head on this porter. The smell is a hazelnut to the beer. The taste is hazelnut with a touch of toffee. Toffee is extremely fate. The aftertaste is a dry hazelnut. It is a sipping beer. It is a beer to take your time and relax.

In closing, I have to say when I opened my Beer Of The Month and saw this beer.  I have to be honest.  I was excited and nervous at the same time.  It was in a good way on my feelings before I open the bottle.  I really enjoyed this beer and it is extremely unique to what is on the market.  I love the smell and taste of the hazelnut along with the chocolate.  I recommend this beer.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Beer Blog Sixpoint Brewing 3Beans

In this beer blog, we are going to get into another beer from Sixpoint Brewing.  This is a new beer from this Brooklyn base brewery and the beer is called 3Beans.  If you read my earlier beer blog post on their beers, you know about the history this brewery.  If you have not, please, read the first part of that beer blog.  Let us get into the beer.

The color of this unique beer from Sixpoint Brewing is a brown to dark brown color with a slight brown white color head on it. The smell is a heavy coffee bean to the beer. The taste is a full body of complex taste. It has coffee to toffee and a little chocolate. It is a understatement to say there is a ton going on in this beer. It is not drinkable beer but good beer with a cigar on a Sunday afternoon. Even though, I do not smoke.

In closing, this beer has a ton going on in it.  It has a full body while giving the craft beer drinker a complex taste that will keep them coming back for more.  Every sip, the drinking experience gives the beer drinker something different every time.  At first, you will smell and taste the coffee but when you break it down more you will notice a few other things in the beer.  I really enjoyed this beer and I will be picking it as long as it is available.  I need to get back to Brooklyn to visit their brewery.  I highly recommend this beer.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Beer Blog New Glarus Brewing Coffee Stout

In this beer blog, we are going to get into another brew from New Glarus Brewing Company.  The beer is called Coffee Stout.  If you read my earlier beer blog, you know the history of this brewery.  If you have not, please, read that earlier beer blog.  Let us get into this beer.

This coffee stout has a black color with a tan color head on the brew. The smell is chocolate with a little coffee notes. The taste of the full body beer has a chocolate with a little coffee notes. The aftertaste is a dry coco to the beer. It is kind of drinkable beer.

In the end, this is a pretty nice coffee stout.  I love how the coffee is not too heavy in this stout.  Most coffee stouts have a heavy coffee and it is not very well balance.  Now that might be how the beer is design which is fine.  I am not knocking it but it nice to get one like this one from New Glarus.  The problem I have with this brewery.  I do not know if it is the water they are using or the same yeast in their beers.  I just feel the base of the beers are the same and kind of taste the same.  I realize coffee stout to a cream ale or a lager.  I know that and they are different.  There is something the same in all their beers.  This was pointed out by a few of my friends and there a few breweries like this.  I enjoy most of the beers I had from this brewery.  This brewery makes some great beers and I wish they were in the Chicago or Michigan market, when I go back to my home state, I could drink some of their beers.  Let me know what you think.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Beer Blog Sixpoint Brewing Diesel

In this winter beer blog, we are going to get into one of my favorite breweries out of New York City.  The brewery is Sixpoint Brewing and the beer is their winter seasonal called Diesel Stout.  If you read my earlier beer blog on their beers, you know how I feel towards this brewery and the history of it.   If you have not, please, read the beer blog called Sixpoint Brewing Apollo.  Let us get into this great stout.

This winter seasonal has a jet black color with a light tan color head to the stout. The smell is a chocolate with a citrus to the beer. The taste is a complex full body beer. It has a chocolate to coffee with piney with a dry chocolate aftertaste. It is drinkable beer to me but I can see people thinking it is not a drinkable beer.

Closing out the winter season, I am sadden by the fact that winter is ending because I love the fall and winter sesaonal beers.  Spring and summer seasonals beer are not one of my favorites.  I really loves this beer because it gives you something little different.  However Sixpoint Brewing gives the craft beer drinker something different, this is way I love Sixpoint.  The craft beer drinker will get the stout and then the snap of the piney at the back part of the tasting experience.  The piney hops echo in the aftertaste.  This is a beer that will give you more for the beer drinker.  If you are looking for the normal stout, this beer is not for you.  If you are a stout or hophead that is looking for something different in your beer, this beer is perfect for you.  I know this beer is not going to be for everyone.  I recommend you trying this beer.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Beer Blog To Ol Brewery Launch Party In Chicago


In this beer blog, we are going to get into a beer launch in Chicago.  The brewery is To Ol Brewery from Denmark.  To Ol Brewery was founded in 2005 by Tobias Emil Jensen and Tore Gynther.  They are traveling rogue brewers.  Where they think their beer styles will be brew best that is where they will go to.  They brew in Europe and United States.  This is what makes this brewery unique and their beer is pretty much one and done, which makes their beer pretty special.  Let us get into the beers.

Goliat Coffee Stout

This stout has a black color with a tan head on the beer.  The smell is a strong coffee and chocolate to the beer. The taste is a strong chocolate to toffee with a heavy aftertaste. This is a sipping beer.

Goliat Coffee Imperial Stout

The great warrior of Gath. The mighty champion of the Philistines. Embedded in ancient folklore and religion. Coming from the World of Old. His size and stature is not human. He is bigger. San Frontiere

This Belgian Blonde has a golden clear color with a white head on the beer. There is really no smell to the beer. The taste is a carbonation sweet with a tart and barnyard aftertaste. It is pretty drinkable beer.

“Heaven knows no frontiers, and I’ve seen heaven in your eyes”

This is how the Frontier beer series lost their ground, missed direction and finally found themselves again. This beer has no frontiers, meaning that it can now pick and choose among brewing specialties. Instead of being an IPA, this is a rather a Belgian ale, hopped and dryhopped with continental european hops and refermented with brettanomyces. A tart, picturesque and rural beer.

Ingredients: Water, barley malt, hops, Rock Candy, yeast and brettanomyces. 7% ABV / Net content 750 ml (25.4 FL OZ)

Final Frontier

This double IPA has a light copper color with a white head on it. The smell is a citrus to the beer. The taste is a strong citrus and carbonation with a dry hop to mango aftertaste. It is pretty drinkable beer.

Black Ball

This porter has dark brown to black color with a tan head on the beer. The smell is a chocolate to roasted coffee to the porter. The taste is a carbonation sweet chocolate with a burn roasted to the beer. The aftertaste is a roasted citrus to the beer. It is kind of drinkable beer.

Mine Is Bigger Than Yours

This ale has a light clear copper color without a head on the beer. There is a slight to fate sweet malty smell to the beer. The taste is a sweet with a strong wine to the beer. The aftertaste is sweet raisin to it. The aftertaste is like a whiskey burning down your throat but calm. It is a sipping beer.

“When you have to kill a man, it costs nothing to be polite”

This beer is a big fat beast packed with every potent ingredient we had at the brewery. This tons of malts and hops combined in one big fat, yet balanced brew.

It  jumps higher than yours, it builds houses bigger than yours, It’s mama is fatter than yours, it chops wood faster than yours, it’s father is could beat yours…. No reason to say, but Mine is bigger than yours!

Ingredients: Water, barley malt, flaked oats, light candy sugar, hops (Columbus, Simcoe, Citra) and yeast.

12.5% ABV / Net content 375 ml (12.7 FL OZ)

In closing, I enjoy all of these beers.  As a rule, I like to age my Barley Wines at least a year before trying them.  I believe this Barley Wine is ready now, which is pretty rare.  I am not saying Barley Wines are not ready now.  Some barley wines are just too young coming out to the market and they are better when they age in the bottle.  The porter is like any other porter but it is pretty good beer.  I really enjoyed the stout and I believe it is best beer of all these beers.  Their Double IPA is really smooth and drinkable.  It is not over the top hoppy like most Double IPA.  I recommend you trying these beers.  I believe you will like at least a few of them.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Beer Blog Saugatuck Brewing Neapolitan Milk Stout

In this beer blog, we are going to check out a newer brewery from Michigan.  The brewery is called Saugatuck Brewing Company and the beer is called Neapolitan Milk Stout.  Saugatuck Brewing was founded in 2005 in Dougles, Michigan by Barry Johnson.  In mid 2008, the next part of their plan was in motion, which was to start bottling their beers.   Let us get into this beer.

It has a jet black color with a tan head on the beer. The smell is milk chocolate to chocolate milk. The taste is a silk to smooth chocolate to the beer. The aftertaste is roasted chocolate to coffee to the beer. It is close to the ice cream. It is a pretty drinkable beer.

Closing, milk stouts always had that feeling of drinking ice cream.  Saugatuck Brewing took it to the next level.  They design this milk stout to totally take on ice cream feel.  I had it in the bottle and I could pick up Neapolitan Ice Cream, which I remember as a kid eating it all the time in Michigan growing up.  I am pretty impressive by this beer and I might have to retry their beers again.  I recommend this beer.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Beer Blog Milwaukee Brewing Dark Matter

While in Milwaukee again, I went back up to Milwaukee to visit my friends from Milwaukee Brewing Company.  I wanted to meet Kurt and try some beers I can not get down in Chicago.  Kurt is a very nice guy.  I have to say he has to be the nicest brewer I have ever met.  Believe me, I have met several ones.  I hope to have a beer with him really soon.  If you read my earlier beer blog on their Pull Chain, you know the history of this brewery.  If you have not, please read the first part of that beer blog.  Let us get into beer.

Dark Matter has a jet black color with a brown to tan head on it. The smell is a chocolate to toffee to the beer.  It is hard to smell while on a brewery tour. The taste is a chocolate malty sweet with light carbonation. The aftertaste is a smooth burn down the throat. This is true to German style but took to the next level.  It is pretty drinkable beer.

In closing, this was experimental beer.  I have to say it was very smooth, rich, and with full body flavor.  I love the smell, taste, and the aftertaste.  This beer does not drink like a 10.5% ABV beer.  I am glad I was up in Milwaukee to try this beer.  I do not know if I have ever saw Imperial Schwarzbier.  I have had normal Schwarzbier and I love this German beer style.  I hope they get a response to this beer and they put it into cans in the future.   I recommend you trying this beer and their brewery tour.  It is one of the best ones in Milwaukee.  I believe I learn something new the last two times I went on it.   Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Beer Blog Kona Brewing Koko Brown Ale

In this beer blog, we are going to get into the spring seasonal from Kona Brewing Co and it is called Koko Brown Ale.  If you read my earlier beer blog on their Pipeline Porter, you know the history of this brewery.  If you have not, please, read the first part of that beer blog.  Let us get into the beer.

This American Brown Ale has a brown color with a white head on this beer.  The smell is a heavy coconut to the beer. The taste is a sweet hazel and coconut with a roasted coconut aftertaste. It is a pretty drinkable beer for heading into the spring and summer seasons.

Closing, this beer is different then what is out in any market asides Hawaii or any other warm spot.  I did enjoy this beer but I just feel that the brown ale is a wrong mix with the coconut.  Please, do not get me wrong this is a great beer and I can see people liking this beer.  I enjoyed this beer.  The taste is hazel nut cover coconut.  I just feel that the coconut goes better with a porter or a stout.  I could dream of a milk stout with a coconut in it.  I recommend this beer and I would love to hear your thoughts on this beer.  I can see this beer being a home run in the Midwest and the colder areas of the United States.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

In this winter beer blog, we are going to take a look at the Kona Brewing Company and the beer is their winter seasonal called Pipeline Porter.  Kona Brewing was founded in 1994 on the Big Island of Hawaii by Cameron Healy and Spoon KhalsaThey are brewing beer to fit the lifestyle of people who live on the island and the tourist that visit Hawaii.  Their Longboard Lager is their flagship beer and is the top-selling craft beer in the state.  Kona Brewing is being sold in twenty-eight states in the United States.  They brew several brews like a pale ale, brown ale, golden ale, etc.  Let us get into the beer.

The aftertaste is like eating whole coffee bean. It is a pretty drinkable beer.

Aloha, this is a great beer.  I was excited to hear that they are finally coming to Chicago and this is the first beer to land a shore.  When I went to Hawaii on vacation, I was drinking a ton of Big Wave Golden Ale.  This porter is smooth and taste is coffee and beer drinker can smelling it.  It is not a drinkable beer but it is a beer that will last in your glass and frig for a while.  I recommend this beer and get ready for rest of there beers being review here on this blog.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!
