New Beer Blog Avery Old Jubilation Ale (2016)

In this winter beer blog, we are going to get into a beer from Avery Brewery.  Avery Brewery started in 1993 in Colorado.  Their first beer that was in package was their IPA.  They started packaging in cans in 2010.  They have won several awards throughout the years.  They moved into their new brewery in 2015.  Let us get into this English Strong Ale.

It has a clear amber color with an off white color head. The aroma has a sweet candy like notes. The taste has a sweet candy to malty notes with sweet malty aftertaste. It is not really drinkable beer.

Closing, I love this brewery.  They make some great beers.  I found them while living in the Chicagoland market.  Since I moved back to Michigan, I have a hard time finding their beers.  If I do, I have to look at the code date.  If I find it fresh, I burn myself out.  I buy and drinking them only for a while.  That is a good thing.  I like it. This is a great English Strong Ale.  What I really like about this beer is they did not throw nutmeg or cinnamon.  This beer is a different pace from the rest of the winter seasonals.  I will search it out next year. New Beer Blog Summit Old Blaggard Ale

In this special beer blog, we are going to get into a special release from Summit Brewery.  It is their Old Blaggard Ale.  If you read my earlier beer blog posts on their beers, you know they history of this Midwest craft brewery.  If you have not, please, read them to get to know this craft brewery.  Let us get into this Barleywine ale.

It has a clear amber to reddish color with a white constant color head. The aroma has a sweet candy like notes. The taste has a sweet malty, candy, and alcohol notes with candy to slight alcohol aftertaste. It is a sipping beer

This Union Series brew is an homage to the great strong ales of the famous English brewing town of Burton-on-Trent. Aged six months, this ale features new varieties of British barley and hops and offers up huge complexity and warmth.

Due to the aging requirements of stronger beers, many British brewers would include “Old” as part of the beer name. (e.g. “Old Tom” referring to the brewery cat). In rural England and Ireland, a blaggard was a ne’er-do-well, so “Old Blaggard” seemed like an apt name to denote the hooligan nature of our Head Brewer, Damian McConn.

Ending, I just had this beer come out of no where.  A friend dropped off some bottles to me.  It has been a long time since I have had a bottle of Summit.  I have to say it has been two to three years when I lived in the Chicago market.  I was pretty excited to try this Old Ale or Barleywine.  I did enjoy the aroma.  It is close to the classic beer style in the aroma.  The beer overall is not very good.  I do not know what went wrong.  I do not believe aging it more in the bottle would help it.  This brewery is trying and I give them credit.  I have to say they are failing at it of late. This is going back when I was trying their beers in Chicago. If you can find a bottle, pick one up.  I know they are not in the Michigan market.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Beer Blog Rochester Mills Snow Daze (2014)

In this winter beer blog, we are going to get into the winter seasonal, which is Snow Daze, from Rochester Mills.  If you read my earlier beer blog posts on their beers, you know the history of this craft brewery.  If you have not, please, read them to get to know this Michigan craft brewery.  Let us get into this beer.

It has a dark amber to brown color with a nice white color. The smell has a malty to alcohol notes. The taste has a sweet malty to alcohol notes with a heavy alcohol aftertaste. The aftertaste has a nice burn down the throat but it is slight.  It is pretty drinkable for the beer style and it will get some craft beer drinkers in trouble.

In the end, this beer has a ton going on in it.  There is some nice complex notes that will keep the beer drinker sipping it until he or she figures it out.  This is a great beer and I love the alcohol notes.  It gives something different with the nice sweet malty notes.  This beer does not taste like 10.2% beer.  It is drinks like a 5% brew.  There is some nice malty notes that will get the malt head going crazy over this beer.  I do not see anyone drinking more than one.  This is a beer that you have one and have to move onto to another one.  I highly recommend this beer.  Draft only for this year but next year it will be in draft and package in 2015.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Beer Blog Great Divide Hibernation Ale

In this beer blog, we are going to get into our first of three brews from Great Divide.  Great Divide was founded in Denver, Coloroda by Brain Dunn in 1994.  They have been ranked as one of the best breweries in the world from a few beer website.  They also brew several different beer styles.  Let us get into the beer.

It has a light brown to dark amber color with a constant tan color head.  The smell is of the malt to a slight caramel notes.  The taste of this medium body is a malty caramel with touch of honey with a dry malty finish.  It is kind of drinkable beer.

In closing, there is a ton going on this well made beer.  I enjoyed this beer a ton.  I can also see why this brew was made because of where the brewery is located.  It has a beautiful color and a nice aroma.  It has a nice taste from this well balance beer.  There is a ton going on in this beer.  I recommend this beer and I would love to hear your thoughts on it.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Beer Blog Arbor Brewing Jack Hammer

In this beer blog, we are going to get into another beer from one of my favorite breweries in Michigan.  The brewery and brew are called Arbor Brewing Jack Hammer.  If you read my earlier beer blogs on their beers, you know the history of this brewery.  If you have not, please, read that beer blog.  Let us get into beer.

This old ale has a brown color with a slight dirty white constant head on it. The smell is caramel to malty to it. The taste of this full body beer is a malty to a touch caramel. It is drinkable beer but be careful.

This strong ale has a clear alcohol presence, a complex fruity palate, and a dry, spicy, rather assertive hop counterbalance in the finish.  It was first brewed and named during the demolition of the old Fourth and Washington parking structure when downtown felt like Jurassic Park and all of its neighbors needed something a little stronger to get us through! The Michigan Microbrewery and Brewpub Guide calls it, “an excellent, true-to-style beer with a subtle yet distinct chocolate covered cherry quality.”

In closing, I really love this beer.  I have not found a good Old Ale.  This beer has a several things going on in the beer.  There is ton going on this beer.  It has a nice sweet almost fruity but malty.  It also comes off dry with a touch of species.  This is a beer to enjoy before dinner and move on or just a beer to watch during a sporting event.  I highly recommend this beer.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/
