New Beer Blog Rochester Mills 12 Days Of Milkshake Stout (2015)

In this special beer blog, we are going to get into a holiday tradition around the Michigan area with Rochester Mills Beer Company. It is their 12 Days Of Milkshake Stout. They are making 12 different versions of their milk stout. They are using the play on words of 12 Days Of Christmas. They have been doing this for 2 years now and I know many people are looking forward to it. I know I was introduced to it when visiting Ashley’s in Westland last year. If you read my earlier beer blog posts on their beers, you know the history of this Michigan craft brewery. If you have not, please, read them to get to know this Midwest craft brewery. Let us get into these stouts.

This year the start date was December 9th and went to the 20th. Each day, the bar or restaurant will tap one beer a day. For example, the photo shows us what the stouts that will be feature in this year’s 12 Days Of Milkshake Stout. It will go in order so the first one is Chocolate Cheesecake. I do not take any tasting notes so I will do my best on these beers. Here is the order of how I liked them. Here is my ranking:

I am not saying that the ones at the bottom are bad beers. They are great but I liked Cinnamon Roll over than the Vanilla Mocha. I know from last year they brought back only six and put six new ones in this year’s 12 Days. They have everything going on that would make just about everyone happy.

Closing, since moving back from Chicago, I have been always looking for this beer event. I love my stouts and this is the best milk stout on the market. They took their milk stout and did different version of this great beer. They keep the six favorites and change the other six. It is not the same stouts each year. I believe that what this beer event special. Rochester Mills Brewery out did themselves this year. I highly recommend all these beers. Go get some! Drink it! Enjoy it! Metal it! \m/

New Beer Blog Roak Roaka Cadabra Spiced Apple Ale

In this fall beer blog, we are going to get into another brew from Roak Brewery. It is their fall seasonal and it is called Roaka Cadabra Spiced Apple Ale. If you read my earlier beer blog posts on their beers, you know the history of this young and upcoming craft brewery. If you have not, please, read them to get to know this Michigan base craft brewery. Let us get into Apple Ale.

It has a dark brown color with light tan color head. The smell has an apple to sweet malty notes. The taste of this medium body beer has a sweet malty to apple pie notes. There is a slight cider sweetest. The aftertaste has a dry apple finish. It is pretty drinkable beer.

Ending, every beer that I have from this brewery I have to give them more and more credit. There is not too many new craft breweries that are trying to push the limits of beer. The new breweries are doing the same beers that are already on the market. Roak and Canton Brew Works are looking to challenge the craft beer drinkers. Their seasonals are not same boring beer styles. They did not want to do an Oktoberfest and Pumpkin Ale. I was pretty happy to hear this fact. They purchased cider from Blake’s Farm and brewed this Apple Ale. I love the fact that they are using Belgian yeast. I like it but I can see people loving to hating this beer. This is a great beer and I cannot wait for their winter seasonal. I highly recommend this beer. Go get some! Drink it! Enjoy it! Metal it! \m/

New Beer Blog Goose Island Fulton St Blend Coffee Ale

In this beer blog, we are going sample another beer from Goose Island Brewery. It was a special release from Fulton Woods series. It is their Fulton Street Coffee Blend Golden Ale. If you read my earlier beer blog posts on their beers, you know the history of this Midwest craft brewery. If you have not, please, read them to get to know this Illinois craft brewery. It has a clear golden color with a semi on constant white head. The aroma has a heavy nice coffee notes. The taste has a smooth balance coffee notes with wet coffee bean aftertaste. It is pretty drinkable beer.

Closing, everyone knows that I am a huge fan of Goose Island Brewery. It was a no brainier to pick up this new beer from them. The coffee beans that they use are the same ones that they use in their Bourbon County Coffee Stout. I knew that the coffee part will be awesome. I have to say this beer did not disappointment at all. This is a great beer. The coffee is not in your face but it is not fade. It has a nice balance. I love it. I highly recommend this beer. New Beer Blog Petoskey Brewing Horny Monk Belgium Style Ale

In this beer blog, we are going to get into another brew from Petoskey Brewing. It is their flagship beer, which is Horny Monk. Let us get into this beer.

It has a clear amber to light brown color with a white constant head. The aroma has a slight malty notes. The taste has a sweet Belgium malty notes with a dry slight nutty aftertaste. It is extremely drinkable beer.

In the end, I can see why so many people love this beer and drink a ton of it. It is smooth and nice drinkable beer. To me, this does not seem like Abbey Dubbel. It is more like a Belgian single with a ton of malt base. This is a great beer either way. I am not a brewer just a guy that loves beer and studies it. It does not has alcohol burn like other Belgium Abbey Dubbel. It is light body. It is like a session Abbey. I love this beer. I highly recommend this beer. Go get some! Drink it! Enjoy it! New Beer Blog Oddside Ales NIHILIST Barrel Aged Double India Pale Ale

In this beer blog, we are going to get into a limited release from Oddside Ales. It is their NIHILIST Barrel Aged Double India Pale Ale. It has a cloudy dark copper color with a white constant head. The aroma has a citrus to oak to slight vanilla notes. The taste has a vanilla to citrus notes with citrus to to whiskey notes for the aftertaste. It is a nice drinkable beer.

Closing, the barrel over took the beer. I was able to taste a little of the IPA. I like this beer but if you are looking for a little bit more of the IPA, you are not going to find it. Once you starting using golden to copper beers in barrel. You will get a mix of good and bad. Overall, this is a great beer and I loved it. I cannot see the price that I paid. New Beer Blog Cheboygan Blueberry Cream Ale

It has a slightly cloudy golden color with a white head at first. It disappears over time. The smell has a heavy blueberry notes. The taste of this light body has a sweet blueberry notes with a sweet blueberry aftertaste. It is extremely drinkable beer.

Closing, I enjoy their beers but I do not go out of my way to find their brews. I normally get some beer when my friend visits the brewery. I am guarantee to get the product fresh. I am a little worried with the beer in the beer stores by me. This beer is extremely drinkable beer. It is smooth and easy to drink as the classic beer style was designed. New Beer Blog Bell’s Two Hearted Ale

In this beer blog, we are going to get into the flagship beer of Bell’s Brewery. It is their Two Hearted IPA. Let us get into this IPA.

It has a cloudy golden color with a white constant head. The aroma has a heavy citrus notes. The taste has a carbonation citrus with a dry bitter aftertaste. It is pretty drinkable.

In the end, I have no idea why everyone goes nuts over this beer. It is a good IPA but it is not best one. Every bar that I go into now it is always on draft. I am sorry there are some other IPA’s. I try not drinking this beer to send a message. I had this time to revisit it. I have to say it is not my favorite IPA but I can respect it. Is this the best IPA? To me, Hell No! New Beer Blog Bell’s Best Brown Ale

It has a cloudy dark brown color with a tan color head. The smell has a sweet malty with nutty notes. The taste has a smooth malty notes with a nutty aftertaste. It is a nice drinkable fall beer.

Closing, I have always pick up a six pack of this beer every year. This is one of the few beers that I go out of my way to pick up from this brewery. They did a great job on making this beer. New Beer Blog Bell’s Expedition Stout

In this beer blog, we are going to get into another brew from Bell’s Brewery. It is their Expedition Stout, which is Imperial Russian Stout. If you read my earlier beer blog posts on their beers, you know the history of this Midwest craft brewery. If you have not, please, read them to get to know this Michigan craft brewery. It has a jet black color with a tan constant head. The aroma has a heavy rich chocolate to coffee notes. The taste has a smooth chocolate milkshake to coffee notes with a nice chocolate to coffee aftertaste. It is a nice sipping beer.

One of the earliest examples of the Russian Imperial Stout in the United States, Expedition Stout offers immensely complex flavors crafted specifically with vintage aging in mind, as its profile will continue to mature and develop over the years. Closing, every year, I go out of my way to find this beer. I love my Imperial Russian Stouts. I do not believe that I had a bad one. It is a pretty heavy beer and perfect for a fall to winter days. This is a good beer to warm you up in the coldest days. This is a sipping beer but it still has some nice balance. I love this beer. I bet you could age this beer. New Beer Blog Bell’s Third Coast Beer

It has a cloudy golden color with a white constant head on this Lager. The smell has a sweet malty notes. The taste has a sweet malty note with a dry aftertaste. It is pretty drinkable beer and true to beer style.

Closing, as many of you know, I have been trying to find a perfect craft lager. I have never had this beer so I broke down and pick up this beer. It is pretty funny how this beer gets confused with their Old Ale. I do not know why they named it about this same name. This beer is pretty average but I can see why they made this beer. When Bell’s Brewery was starting, there was not many craft beer drinkers. This craft brewery was trying to get mass produced lager drinkers. There is many of these craft breweries that have lagers. Mainly, these craft breweries started in the 1980’s. I recommend this beer. Go get some! Drink it! Enjoy it! Metal it! \m/
