New Beer Blog Great Divide Hades Golden Belgian Style Ale

In this beer blog, we are going to get into the last of the three beers from Great Divide Brewing that I am reviewing on this blog.  It is their Hades Belgian-Style Ale.  It you read my earlier beer blog post on their beers, you know the history of this brewery.  If you have not, please, read those beer posts to get to know this brewery.  Let us get into the beer.

It has a slight cloudy golden color without a head.  The smell is between malt to citrus but very fade.  It is hard to pick up.  The taste of this medium body ale is a slight carbonated back hop to malt with refreshing with a slight citrus finish.  It is a session beer.

In closing, this is one beer style.  I believe are hardest to match to the classic beer style and put your own twist.  It is just like lagers most craft breweries can not make a good one.  Great Divide did a great job coming as close as they can and putting their twist on  their version of Duvel.  I have to say I was pretty impressed about it.  I recommend you trying this brew and please let me know if I am right or wrong.  I would love to talk about beer with you.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Beer Blog Ayinger Brewery Celebrator Doppelbock

In this import beer blog, we are going to get into one of my flavorite beer styles.  This is straight from Germany.  The beer we will be sampling is from Ayinger Brewery and the  beer is their Celebrator Doppelbock.  Ayinger Brewery was started in Munich in 1878.  They brew several different beer styles in the shadow of the Alps.  They are best known in the styles for this brew.  Let us get into the beer.

It has a dark brown color without a head on the beer.  There is a slight toffee notes in the aroma.  The taste is slight toffee to a touch of caramel and liquid chocolate. There is no aftertaste.  It is pretty drinkable beer.

The History of Celebrator Doppelbock

Originally brewed at a monastery in northern Italy, “double bock” was quickly introduced by Bavarian brewers to compete with bock. Doppelbock names end with the suffix “-ator.”

Taste

A rich, dark elixir with cascading layers of malt complexity balanced by elegant hops. Notes of toffee, caramel, elegant dark-malt roastiness, and pure malt. Pinpoint conditioning and semi-dry finish.

Serving Suggestion

Pastries and desserts, roast goose, cured ham, smoked duck, wild turkey, filet with Dijon sauce, chanterelles, Tournedos Rossini, Châteaubriand. Enjoy with a fine cigar after dinner. Serve in stemmed tumbler at 50 °F.

Closing out, I really love this beer.  I drink this beer once in a blue moon.  I enjoy this beer and the smoothest of the brew.  This is a nice fall to winter beer, however, I can enjoy this brew on hot summer day like today.  There is a few craft brewery that could make a doppelbock.  There are some craft breweries that came pretty close or nail it.  They are Capital Brewery, Brooklyn Brewery, and Frankenmuth Brewery.  If I am missing a brewery or breweries, please, let me know.  I will add them to the list.  This is The Godfather of Doppelbock.  I highly recommend this brew.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it! \m/

New Beer Blog 3 Fonteinen Zwet.be Belgian Porter

Happy 4th of July, we are going to get into 3 Fonteinen Zwet.be in this beer blog.  It is a pretty unique beer.  It is a Belgian Porter, which is unique as it is, but they use the Begian yeast during the brewing process.  3 Fonteinen was founded in 1887 in Belgium.  They were brewing lambics beers.  It is style of blending old and young beer into one.  It was sold 1953 to Gaston De Belder and it has been the family since.  The current owners have expanded the brewery and they have been exploring into different beer styles like the one we are review here.  Let us get into this unique beer.

It has a jet black color with a constant tan to light brown color head. The smell is a dark chocolate cover fruit.  The taste of this full body is a dark chocolate with a tart aftertaste. It is a sipping beer with a cigar.

This unusual ale is the brainchild of Armand Debelder, brewer and blender of the world-famous Drie Fonteinen lambics.  A Belgian Porter, brewed with wild yeast cultured from Armand’s casks of lambic.

Zwet.be, unusual “black” beer mixed gistingis is brewed with wheat, Maris Otter malt and cara malt.

Specifically, the mixed fermentation, yeast culture on the one hand from the Beersel Blonde, other lambic yeast. The lambic, brewed by Armand Debelder, a specific type of Brettanomyces geïsolleerd. This yeast gives this beer of 7% alc. volume slightly tart finish.

In the end, I hope this would be my last beer on the planet.  This is amazing sipping beer.  I am a huge porter fan and I have not really been a fan of Belgian beers.  This beer is in my top five list of best porters ever had so far in my life.  This porter has everything that will make the Belgian fans happy and non Belgian fans happy.  There is the dark chocolate to tart notes.  This is dark chocolate cover fruit because of the tart.  I am pretty speechless on what to say about Zwet.be.  It just tells you how much I liked this beer.  I will say this just because I like this beer.  It does not mean you will like it too.  I would keep an open mind and draw your own thought pattern.  This is great beer and I highly highly HIGHLY recommend you trying this beer.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Beer Blog Evil Twin and Local Option Plastic Man

Starting a new tab, we are going to get into another brew from Evil Twin Brewing.  If you read my earlier beer post on Evil Twin Brewing, you know the history of this brewery.  If you have not, please, read that beer blog post.  However, this beer has Local Option teamed up with Evil Twin Brewing to brew this beer, Let us get into the history of Local Option.  There is really no history on the internet for Local Option.  They are based in Chicago.  Let us get into the beer.

It is cloudy peach color with a constant white head. It is like they put whole peaches in the bottle without the skin. The smell has a peach aroma to this Saison Style Ale. The taste is a slight carbonated peaches with peach aftertaste. It is drinkable beer.

Closing out, this beer was something else.  Local Option and Evil Twin teamed up and did a great job on this beer.  I am pretty impressed with this beer.  I have not had too many beers from Local Option.  I will be heading down to check out their brewpub.  Evil Twin, I had several different brews from Evil Twin Brewing.  I am not a fan of peaches but the peaches in this brew are awesome.  I highly recommend this beer and I want you to hunt this beer down.  Please, let me know what you think of it.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Beer Blog Evil Twin Brewing Aun Mas Cafe Jesus

In this beer blog, we are going to get into the first brew on this blog ever from Evil Twin Brewing.  The beer is their Aun Mas Cafe Jesus Imperial Stout.  Jeppe Jarnit-Bjergsø founded Evil Twin Brewing in 2010.  Evil Twin Brewing started out as a rogue brewery, which means he would use other people’s brewery to brew his beers.  There are several breweries like that out there in the market.  To-Ol and Stillwater are two other popular craft breweries on the market right now.  The state of Denmark beers styles made him and a few of his friends to start brewing their own beers.  Evil Twin was not the only craft brewery to pop up in Denmark.  He knows and is friends with the founder from Mikkeler Brewery.  Evil Twin has teamed up with several different breweries to make brews together.  They also brew several different beer styles and pushing the limits of classic beer styles.   Two Rogue Breweries or they like to called themselves Gypsy Breweries has teamed up to build their own brewery together.  I do not know how true this right now.  It is all a rumor and I cannot find any facts on this rumor.  It is an Urban Legend and do not hold this to me, however, Evil Twin has been working moving more brewing to The States.  Let us get into this brew.

This Imperial Stout has a jet black color with a nice tan and light brown constant head. The smell is slight toffee and chocolate with some coffee bean. The taste of this full body beer is a chocolate and toffee with a heavy coffee notes.  It is a nice sipping beer.

On a pilgrimage for immortal craft beer we tripped on these heavenly coffee beans – threw them in and created damn good aromas, a thick fudge-like body, pitch black color and obviously only made it in limited amounts.  And the taste… furthermore jesus!!

In closing, I am speechless on how good this beer is and was in my beer glass.  I have had some great Imperial Stouts and Coffee Stouts in my time on this planet.  This is one of my favorite beer styles.  I have to say this beer from Evil Twin is up there in my top ten in the stout styles. In every sip, that I take from my beer glass I pick up something new and exciting from this beer.  There is a nice balance between the stout and the coffee beans itself.   I will have to explore more Evil Twin brews in the near future.  I highly recommend this beer.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Beer Blog Innis & Gunn Irish Whiskey Cask Scottish Stout

In this beer blog, we are going to get into another beer from Innis & Gunn.  It is Oak Aged Beer that is Irish Whiskey Barrels with their Scottish Stout.  If you read my earlier beer blog on their flagship, you know the history of this brewery.  If you have not, please, read that beer post.  Let us get into the beer.

It has a black color without a head on the beer. The smell is chocolate whiskey to the beer. The taste has a chocolate with a nice well balance taste.  The aftertaste has a slight bite like whiskey to it. It is drinkable beer.

This special bottling of Innis & Gunn has been matured in rare oak barrels from a famous distillery in Ireland.  These barrels had been used to mature one of the unique maturation is a big, full flavored, complex beer with a delightful warming finish.

In closing, I really enjoyed this beer.  They are doing something different than most breweries.  They make some killer beers and then age them in barrels.  I know this has been a huge trend in the craft beer world but there is not too many breweries that all of their beers they make are aged in barrels.  This brewery is one of the few and the only one I know of out there.    This stout is something else.  I would love to try it before they put it in the barrels.  I know the price might be a little pricey, however, it is well worth the price.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Beer Blog Staropramen Cool Grep

In this beer blog, we are going to get into another brew from Staropramen Brewery.  It is their Cool Grep, which is like the Cool Lemon but grapefruit.  If you read my earlier beer blog on their beers, you know the history of this brewery.  If you have not, please, read that beer post to get up to speed on this brewery.  Let us get into the beer.

It has a cloudy grapefruit juice color without a head on it. The smell is a heavy grapefruit to the beer. The taste is a grapefruit without an aftertaste. This is a drinkable beer.

In closing, this is a great beer but I am not a fan of grapefruit.  If you are a fan of grapefruit, you will enjoy this beer.  It is just like their Cool Lemon.  Staropramen did a great job on their packaging and liquid.  I recommend this brew if you are a fan of grapefruit or fruit beers.  Go get some if you are in Europe.  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Beer Blog Staropramen Cool Lemon

In this beer blog, we are going to get into another beer from Staropramen.  It is their Cool Lemon.  If you read my earlier beer blog post on their beer, you know the history of this brewery.  This brewery has been around for a while but you might already know it.  If you have not read that beer blog, please, read that beer blog to get know this really old brewery.  Let us get into the beer.

It a cloudy yellow color without a head on the beer.  The smell is a heavy lemon to the beer. The taste is a heavy lemon without a n aftertaste. It is pretty drinkable beer.

In closing, I was pretty stun on how good this brew turn out.  When I was in Prague, as soon as I discovered this brew. I could not stop drinking it.  This is a great brew and I wish just like most of their beers were available in the states.  I am not a huge lager fan but this brewery does a great job on their beers from the packaging to the liquid.  Since, this brew has such a low alcohol level, you can drink this beer all day.  If you are around the Prague area or Europe, go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Beer Blog Budweiser Vs. Budweiser Budvar

In this beer blog, we are going to have a debate on 100-year-old argument.  There has been lawsuits and I believe they are still tied up in the courts.  Most general beer drinkers know about this debate and I know pretty much all craft beer drinkers know about it too.  The question how true is it that one of the Buschs stole Budweiser and brought the beer to the states.  I might not be able to answer this over 100 year question but I will put my thought on this debate.  Let us get into it.

Budweiser

History

I bet you already know the history of this beer.  Well just in case you do not here is a fast history lesson.  Budweiser was first brewed in 1876.  The company was known as Anheuser-Busch.  Adolphus Busch left Germany in 1850’s.  He prefered light lagers while everyone else, who is the general public at the time, wanted dark lagers or ales.  Adolphus Busch traveled throughout Europe learning the latest brewing techniques.

It has a clear golden color without a head on the beer.  The smell is malty or I like to say fresh air. The taste is a sweet carbonated to slight hop notes  with a dry crisp finish. It is a drinkable beer.

Budweiser Budvar

History

This brew was brewed back in 1785.  The brewery started exporting beer to the states in 1871.  Anheuser-Busch trademaked the name Budweiser two years after it was first brewed in 1878.  Czech Budweiser was sold to Budvar in 1895.  In 1938, it was settled that Anheuser-Busch could use the name Budweiser in the United States.  Of course, in 2007, Anheuser-Busch and Budvar agreed that AB would market and sell Budvar and Czechvar  in the United States and other countries.  Both sides said this does not affected their lawsuit to one another.  If you see Czechvar, it is Budweiser Budvar.

It has a clear golden color without a head. It is slight darker than the American Budweiser. The smell is a fresh apple smell like grannysmith apples. The taste is a sweet carbonated to slight hop notes with a dry  crisp finish. It is a drinkable beer.

In closing, so what is the debate on these two beers?  They do not look like.  Budvar is a little dark in color.  The smell is not the same either.  However, the taste is about the same, is the beechwood aging and the rice in American Budweiser any different?  They are a little different but the taste is about the same.  So the really debate is was the name stolen by Anheuser-Busch?  There is still a lawsuit in the courts.  We will never get the true and I believe this will never be settled.  They are big brands in their countries.  So just kick back and have a cold ones!  I just hope one day we could see both of these beers on the shelf with the same name on them.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it! \m/

New Beer Blog McAuslan Brewing St Ambrose Oatmeal Stout

In this beer blog, we are going to try one of my favorite beer styles, which is Oatmeal Stout.  The brewery and the beer is McAuslan Brewing St. Ambrose Oatmeal Stout.   McAuslan Brewing opened their doors in 1989.  After 2002 Moosehead sold their shareholder stock, the brewery expanded into a new brewery.  They still brew Moosehead beer for the Quebec market.  Their beers are slowly making their way around the United States.  Let us get into this great brew.

It has a her black color without a head on the beer. The smell is chocolate to fresh s’mores.  The taste has a chocolate and coffee with a dry coco aftertaste. It is not that drinkable beer.

At the World  Beer Championship in 1994, St-Ambroise Oatmeal Stout received the second  highest rating of the over 200 beers in the competition and it won one  of only nine platinum medals awarded. Brewed from 40 percent dark malts and roasted barley, this intensely  black ale carries strong hints of espresso and chocolate. Oatmeal  contributes body and a long-lasting mocha-colored head to this  well-hopped beer.

In closing, I did not realize this was an import craft beer.  I am not judging it by any means.  I really enjoyed this beer and I know Canada makes some good beers.  Canada is an extremely under rated country for brewing beers.  This is a heavy beer and I love when a brewery does that to their porters and stouts.  Sometimes breweries make their porters and stouts weak and light in body for that beer style.  There is nothing wrong with that I sometimes love those beers.  However, I sometimes want one heavy beer and move on with my day, this beer fits it.  I will be adding it to my line up beers.  It will be rotated in and out of my frig.  I was pretty impressed by this beer.  I recommend this beer.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/
