New Sports Thought Blog World Cup And Soccer

In this Sports Thought Thursday blog, we are going to get into the World Cup.  I am not going to get into the history of this tournament or soccer.  Personally, I really do not care.  It might shape the thought pattern on this blog.  The big question is why should we care in American?  Is soccer going to grow in the United Sates?  Let us get into this debate.

This is a big event around the world asides here in the United States.  I know there are many in the states that can give a crap.  However, if the US team keeps playing, the more interested it is going to gather in the States.  Will that help the sport grow in the states?  Of course, it will help but will anyone care after the World Cup is finish.  I see the only way this sport will make in the States if US team wins the cup.  It is a fact.  There has been several soccer leagues open in the states and then soon disappears in the dust.  We had the Rockers in Detroit and I was always getting free tickets to go watch the game.  I did not understand the game and I told myself I will be back to a game.  I never made it back.  We have NFL, MLB, NBA, and NHL.  Two out of four of our sports is what the world worries about.  They are MLB and NHL.  Most part of the world they do not care about MLB and NFL.  Do we have it wrong in the states?  Or is the world wrong?  I believe it is taste and what you like.  Soccer had its highest TV ratings during the US vs German match.  Is there more to come with this?  I would say yes.

In closing, I will write a follow-up blog at the end of the World Cup.  I personally do not care.  I just find the sport very boring.  I never saw so much flopping field or court.  I do understand it because I took the time to learn it.  I am turn off on the sport.  I wish all the countries the best of luck.  I believe we in the States will go back to not caring once the US is knocked out and when the World Cup disappears for another four years.  We do not care about soccer and it is reality.  It is a niche sport here.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

Cheers!

New Beer Blog Ayinger Brewery Celebrator Doppelbock

image

In this import beer blog, we are going to get into one of my flavorite beer styles.  This is straight from Germany.  The beer we will be sampling is from Ayinger Brewery and the  beer is their Celebrator Doppelbock.  Ayinger Brewery was started in Munich in 1878.  They brew several different beer styles in the shadow of the Alps.  They are best known in the styles for this brew.  Let us get into the beer.

It has a dark brown color without a head on the beer.  There is a slight toffee notes in the aroma.  The taste is slight toffee to a touch of caramel and liquid chocolate. There is no aftertaste.  It is pretty drinkable beer.

Here is a description from their website (www.merchantduvin.com):

The History of Celebrator Doppelbock

Originally brewed at a monastery in northern Italy, “double bock” was quickly introduced by Bavarian brewers to compete with bock. Doppelbock names end with the suffix “-ator.”

Taste

A rich, dark elixir with cascading layers of malt complexity balanced by elegant hops. Notes of toffee, caramel, elegant dark-malt roastiness, and pure malt. Pinpoint conditioning and semi-dry finish.

Serving Suggestion

Pastries and desserts, roast goose, cured ham, smoked duck, wild turkey, filet with Dijon sauce, chanterelles, Tournedos Rossini, Châteaubriand. Enjoy with a fine cigar after dinner. Serve in stemmed tumbler at 50 °F.

Closing out, I really love this beer.  I drink this beer once in a blue moon.  I enjoy this beer and the smoothest of the brew.  This is a nice fall to winter beer, however, I can enjoy this brew on hot summer day like today.  There is a few craft brewery that could make a doppelbock.  There are some craft breweries that came pretty close or nail it.  They are Capital Brewery, Brooklyn Brewery, and Frankenmuth Brewery.  If I am missing a brewery or breweries, please, let me know.  I will add them to the list.  This is The Godfather of Doppelbock.  I highly recommend this brew.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it! \m/

Cheers!

New Beer Blog New Glarus Back 40 Bock

image

In this beer blog, we are going to get into another beer from New Glarus Brewing and the beer is called Back 40 Bock.  If you read my earlier beer blog on their beers, you know about this brewery.  If you have not, please, read that beer blog to get up to speed on this brewery.  Let us get into the beer.

It has a brown color with a snow-white head on the beer.  The smell is a hint of caramel. The taste is a sweet malty with a toffee aftertaste.  It is pretty drinkable and smooth beer.

Here is description from beer bottle and website (www.newglarusbrewing.com):

The “Back Forty” is property commonly found on the outskirts of the Wisconsin family farm. Here uncultivated acres wait prime for adventure forts, tree houses, rope swings and first kisses! A place to run away, to camp, to climb, to build, to play.  Not actually home but not too far away. That’s the Back Forty. The beer you hold is similar both dark and adventurous still smooth and familiar.  Here’s a beer you can enjoy without pretense or explanation.  Every mind requires some acres of possibility, space for dreams, the great escape, everyone needs a Back Forty.

Ending, this was a pretty different beer.  I was expecting something else and I receive something a little better in my mind.  This bock is nothing special but it is still a good beer.  To me, it is a beer I am glad I try but I know I will not be trying this beer again. Let me know what you think of this beer.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

Cheers!

New Blog Widmer Alt

When in Portland at Widmer Brothers Brewpub, after our brewery tour, which I did really enjoyed the depth of details, we were able to get some lunch and a few brews.  If you read my earlier blog on their Raspberry Imperial Russian Stout, you are pretty know this brewery.  If you have not read that beer post, please, read the first of that beer post.  Let us get into this great brew.

I had this beer at their brewpub. It has a nice amber color with semi white head on the beer.  It has a sweet malty smell to this alt.  The taste is a nice sweet carbonation malty with a dry finish to it. It is pretty drinkable beer.

Here is their website and twitter addresses:

In closing, I am a huge fan of Alt ales.  I believe there are some really good Alts out there and there are some really bad Alts.  There is no middle of the road on this beer style for craft brewery. Either the brewery can make a really good one or just do not make it all.  I hate to be so harsh on Brewmasters.  This is a science and an art form.  I know for a fact that Einstein would not put some of his thoughts on paper unless they were really good.  It would go with Vincent Van Gogh making his master pieces.  This beer is done very good and it is everything I look for in this beer style.  I would put this beer in my line up but it is only available in draft and at their brewpub.  If you are out in Portland, check out the Widmer Brothers’ brewpub for this beer and some great food.  Put a bird on it and go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

Cheers!
