New Beer Blog Frankenmuth Brewery J.B. McGinnis Dry Irish Stout

While in Michigan, I received a chance to try another brew from the Frankenmuth Brewery.  This is one of their many seasonals  that this brewery has and it is called J.B. McGinnies Dry Irish Stout.  If you read my earlier blog post on this brewery, you know a little something about this brewery.  If you have not, please, go back and read the first part of that blog post.  Let us get into the beer.

It is black in color with a kind of head. It has a nice chocolate to toffee smell.  The taste is dry with some chocolate to roast malts and taste with a dry aftertaste.  It is drinkable and is my favorite Irish Dry Stout.

In closing, I was stun to see this on draft.  I was not expecting to see this in their line up and I had to order one.  This Dry Stout is the best one I have ever had.  I had a ton of Dry Stout and most are from the big mass-produced.  Frankenmuth Brewery made this Dry Stout with an attitude problem, which is a good thing, and I believe that what makes this one better than the others on the market.  It has a rich flavor from chocolate to toffee and coffee notes.  It has enough hops to give it a nice balance.  I could drink this beer all day.  This is a limited time only beer and I would recommend you taking a trip up to Frankenmuth Brewery.  I wish this was in bottles.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it! \m/

New Beer Blog Milwaukee Brewery Tour And Brewery

While in Milwaukee, WI, as many of you know, I rode my motorcycle up to check out as many breweries in Milwaukee.  I had to stop by my favorite brewery, which is Milwaukee Brewery, and many of you know that I am a huge fan of this brewery.  If you read my earlier blog on their Pull Chain, you are up to speed on the history of this brewery.  If not, please, go back and read the first part of blog post.  Here is a little of their brewery.  Milwaukee Brewery started out under a brewpub in the city and it was called Milwaukee Ale House, which is still there.  I would recommend checking out their brewpub.  You will get a feel of the theme of their brewery and their beers.  There first beer was brewed in 1997.  Let us get into the tour and then a few of beers that I was trying that I did not blog.

Brewery Tour

The first thing I noticed about this brewery.  It reminded me of old school Goose Island in Chicago before they were sold to Budweiser.  They are very lay back and enjoy brewing beer.  This gives you  the hint of their packaging design and how they brew their beers.  I like how they broke up the brewery tour in parts with a beer break between each part.  They had several beers you could try and enjoy.  I also like that the tour guide had a microphone for most of the tour.  I have been on several brewery tours where they are shouting, yelling, or even screaming for the people to hear them.  We had Tom and he was awesome.  I had a great time listening to him because of his passion and love for his job.  You can tell he loves his jobs and he was not the only one there with that passion.  I really enjoyed this brewery and this tour. It is worth the $7.00.  Thank you MKE Brewery for welcoming us into your brewery.

MKE ULAO

This beer has a golden yellow color with a nice constant white head.  This beer really does not have a smell to it.  There is a little wheaty and yeast taste to the beer.  This is extremely drinkable beer and with a nice punch of 5% ABV.  As many of you know, I am not a fan of wheat, white, or hefeweizen.  I believe my taste buds are changing again.  I really enjoyed this beer and I recommend you trying this beer.  Go get some!

MKE Double IPA

This beer has a nice copper color with a nice white constant head.  This beer has a nice cirtus to piney smell to it.  The taste is about the same as the smell, which is cirtus to it.  The aftertaste is a bitter dry which is about right for my taste buds.  It is a pretty drinkable beer for being a big IPA.  I really enjoyed this beer and I wish it was in the package.  I will hunt down a bar in Chicago to drink it.  If I cannot find bar in Chicago, I guess it is another road trip to Milwaukee.  Go get some!

Leaving Milwaukee, I had a great time and it felt like a huge beer party with all the beer drinkers at the brewery during the tours.  It was nice to see the brewery and meet some of the workers that work for this brewery.  It was also nice to go to the brewpub to see where they started.  This is a good brewery and I hope more and more people discover their beers.  Thank you for showing us around.  If you are around Milwaukee, please, check  this brewery out.  It is worth your money.  This is what you get for your money and it is one pint glass, brewery tour, sample any beer that is available, and two tokens to use at a selected bars in the area.  Go get some!   Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Blog Uinta Brewing Detour Double IPA

In this beer blog, we are going to get into a beer from Uinta Brewing.  The beer is called Detour Double IPA, which is part of their Crooked Line.  If you read my earlier blog on their Uinta Hyve Ale, you are up to speed on the information on this brewery.  If you have not, please read the first part of that beer post.  Let us get into the beer.

This Double India Pale Ale is part of their 750ml bottle which is called Crooked Line. It is heavy in carbonation and has a dark amber copper color to the beer with a head. The smell is a citrus to earthy to the beer.  The taste of the beer is the same as the smell.  It has a nice crisp bitter finish. It is pretty drinkable for a beer with 9.5% ABV.

In the end, this is one of my favorite beers from this brewery asides their Hop Notch India Pale Ale, which there is a beer post on this blog.  I love the drinkablity of this beer.  It has a nice hoppy taste but yet balance from the great malty backbone.  It is extremely drinkable and dangerous because it is 9.5% ABV.  This beer has affordable price at your local liquor store which makes it a value to us craft beer drinkers.  This is a great beer and I highly recommend it.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Blog Tallgrass Brewing 8-Bit Pale Ale

In this blog, we are going to get into the Tallgrass Brewing 8-Bit Pale Ale.  Tallgrass Brewing was founded in 2006 by Jeff Gill in Manhattan, Kansas.  They brew several different beer styles and they are only available in draft and cans.  They are available in the Midwest, Mississippi, and Minnesota.  The history of this young brewery is very little but I found this information all on their website (www.tallgrassbeer.com).  They are not in the Chicago area and I wish they would come to Illinois.  I had a friend being me a four pack back for me to try it and blog about it.

8-Bit Pale Ale has yellow cloudy look to the beer with a constant white head.  The carbonation is pretty high on this beer so pour it slowly in the beer glass.  To me, the beer has that funky Belgian yeast smell to it, which I do not believe they use Belgian yeast.  The beer drinker will smell spices with some earthy to it.  As far as the taste of this beer has an earthy taste with a nice sweet aftertaste.  It has that feel of Belgian Pale Ale to this beer.  It is an extremely drinkable beer with nice old school video game graphics on the 16oz can.

In the end, Tallgrass Brewing did a great job using Galaxy Hops.  I love the graphics on the can and the name of the beer.  Being a beer fan and video gamer, this is my beer of choice while playing the video games and it will be in my regular beer line up.  I had a friend of mine that watches G4TV saw this beer on one of their shows.  She forward it over to me and that is when I started doing some research the brewery and beer to find out where I can pick up this beer.  I had another friend visiting family in Kansas so I asked her to pick up some beer for me.  I really love the body and favor this beer kicks out.  It is your standard American Pale Ale but it has a huge Belgian Pale Ale feel to it.  It has a nice balance from the malts and hops to give a nice punch and full favor.  8-Bit Pale Ale is drinkable and I believe it will make every beer drinker love this beer.  Hey Chicago, we are not that far from Wisconsin.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Blog Sierra Nevada Brewery Beer Camp 2012

In this blog, we are going to take a look at another set of beers from Sierra Nevada Brewery.   If you read my earlier blog, you know a little something about this brewery.  The set of beers is coming from a sampler pack called Beer Camp.  Here is the beers, which are Oatmeal Stout, Floral IPA, Imperial Red Ale, and Imperial Pilsner, that are being featured in this blog.  Let us get into the beers.

Sierra Nevada Brewery Imperial Pilsner

This beer has a clear golden color with a constant white head on this pilsner. It has a fresh air smell to it. The taste is a sweet carbonation with a crisp dry slight hoppy aftertaste. Sierra Nevada Imperial Pilsner is extremely drinkable and will get beer drinkers in trouble if they are not paying attention.  I recommend trying this beer.

Packing a big hop-forward punch and bright crisp finish, this golden pilsner features a hearty dose of “sticky,” resinous Crystal and Pacifica dry hops, which balance the light-bodied yet complex malt backbone.

Sierra Nevada Brewery Imperial Red Ale

The red ale in the glass is a dark amber color with somewhat of a white head on it. It has a sweet raisins smell to it. The taste is of a sweet carbonation malty with a weird aftertaste. I cannot really decide it to you. It is drinkable until that aftertaste.

This Imperial Red Ale takes the intense hop profile found in a traditional double IPA and turns up the malt.  It has big aromatic hop notes of grapefruit, peach, and melon-balanced by a smooth and surprisingly robust malt body.

Sierra Nevada Brewery Floral IPA

This beer has a copper cloudy color with a constant white head on it. The smell of flowers is what this India Pale Ale has going on with it. The taste is of a citrus to piney with a dry hoppy aftertaste to it. It is drinkable India Pale Ale.

Sierra Nevada Brewery Oatmeal Stout

It is black in color without a head on this stout. It has a chocolate to toffee smell to this Sierra Nevada Oatmeal Stout. The taste is burn malt to milky chocolate notes to the beer. It is extremely drinkable and will be troublesome to most beer drinkers.

This big oatmeal stout is midnight black in color-with a big, roasty, mocha-like aroma.  It has a silky body from the use of rolled oats, and a round and lasting finish.  Perfect as an after dinner treat.

In the end, this was a really good set of beers in this sampler pack with a great value.  There are a few higher end beers for $19.99 price point, which makes this a great value.  I love all the beers in this pack but the Imperial Red Ale.  I believe that is the weakest one of the four.  This is the order of the beers I like and it is Oatmeal Stout, Imperial Pilsner, Floral IPA, and Imperial Red Ale.  I did blend the Imperial Red Ale and the Floral IPA into one glass.  It was pretty good.  I highly recommend you trying Beer Camp.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Blog Founders Cerise Cherry Fermented Ale

In this blog, we are going to check out another brewery from Michigan called Founders Brewing.  The beer we are going to talk about is their Cerise Cherry Fermented Ale.  This is one of their four pack seasonal beers.  Here is a little history on this brewery.  The brewery was founded in 1997.

Mike Stevens and Dave Engbers both had steady jobs when they decided to chase their dreams and open a brewery–which meant writing a business plan, quitting their jobs, and taking out giant loans. They figured if you’re going to live life, you ought to live it hard, without regrets.

The website had a better explanation than what I could have ever wrote on this brewery.  I found that straight from their website.  Let us get into the brew that I checked out from this brewery.

Founders Cerise has a nice red cherry color without a head on it.  It has a nice fresh pick cherry smell to it.  This fruit beer has a sweet heavy cherry taste with a little carbonation to it. The aftertaste is a heavy cherry to it. It is drinkable beer.

In closing, I did not know how I would react to this beer.  I am not a huge fan of this beer style of fruit in beer.  I have tried several Belgian and Belgian Fruit Beer Style and they all pretty much came off the wrong to me.  Some were too sweet or not any fruit taste in them.  With all that said, I really like this beer.  It kind of remind me of Liefman’s Fruitesse but with just Cherry in it.  Liefmans has every berries you can think of in the world in it.  It is extremely drinkable and dangerous for an ABV 6.5%.  Go find this beer before the season is over.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Blog Sixpoint Resin

In this blog, Sixpoint Resin is going to be the feature beer.  Sixpoint Brewery is from Brooklyn, New York City which was founded in 2004.  They brew several different beer styles and put a twist on them.  I have blogged on this brewery several times.  I believe the only beer that I am not a really big fan of their Rightlous Ale.   I need to retry that beer again.  I am not a big fan of Rye Ales.  Asides that I really enjoyed the rest of their line up and it includes this beer.  Let us get into this beer.

Sixpoint Resin is an Imperial India Pale Ale.  It has a nice copper color with a little white head in the beer. It has a heavy citrus to piney smell to it. The taste is a sweet carbonation citrus with the dry hop aftertaste.  It is very drinkable for the style of beer.

In closing, I am a huge hop head and this lives up to the hop muscle that I am looking in an Imperial India Pale Ale.  I love the overall beer taste.  It has a nice malty backbone which is important with these Imperial and Double IPAs.  There is not too many craft breweries that has done this right to their beers.  Some breweries can not even get their normal India Pale Ale right.  I love how it is drinkable with a serious big punch of 9.1%.  This is my go to Imperial IPA and it is pretty much always in my refrigerate.  Go find this beer and I will be disappointed if you do not fall in love with it.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Blog Birra Del Borgo Extra Re Ale

In this blog, we are going to get into a beer from Italy.  It is an American India Pale Ale from Birra Del Borgo Extra Re Ale.  There is no information on this brewery just ratings from Ratebeer and Beeradvocate.  Then I finally realize to look at the bottle and I found a website of the brewery.  The brewery was founded in 2005 so it is a young brewery.  They brew several different beer styles.  It is a wide range of beer styles.  Let us get into their India Pale Ale.

Re Ale has a ton of carbonation so please pour it slowly in the glass.  It has a deep amber color with a nice white head. The smell is of orange and some citrus in the beer. The taste is very unique for being import beer plus an India Pale Ale.  It has a nice sweet carbonation circus with a nice dry hop finish. This is a very drinkable India Pale Ale from Italy.  Yes it is from Italy.

Ingredients: water, barley, malt, EXTRA hop, yeast.  Unpasteurized, unfiltered, bottled-conditioned.  Serve at 53 to 57 F.  Natural yeast sediments on the bottom.

Extra-hopped version of Reale

A derivative of our regular ReAle, the hops are varied especially in quantity: a huge amount is added in a different technique. All the hops are added during the last 10 minutes of the boil, using 3 times more than regular ReAle. The result is an explosion of perfumes, in a range from citrusy to resiny (pine resin and incense). The mouth feel is dry, with immediate bitterness, then it finishes with a beautiful, persistent tangerine note.

In closing, just want to thank my friend that share this bottle with me, I am really stun this came from Italy and it being good.  I do not think I have to say what you think when you think of Italy? It is wine, wine and more wine.  I love the complex taste that I get from this India Pale Ale.  I love the funky to spicy taste and then the run on the hop taste.  This is not a cheap beer.  I believe my friend pay $80.00 for a case of 12  11.2oz bottles.  I would go and hunt this beer down.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Blog Innis & Gunn Original Oak Aged Beer

Starting a new tap, we are going to sample out another barrel age beer.  This time around it is Innis & Gunn Original Oak Aged Beer.  This brewery was started in 2003.  There is really nothing more on this brewery.  This beer is aged in a barrel for thirty days.  Let us get int othe beers.

When pour in the glass, the beer is a nice copper color with a kind of head.  It has that import smell. It has a malty earthy taste to it. It is very smooth for being a full body beer. It is very drinkable.  The more the beer drinker is drinking this beer. He or she will start to experience a little vanilla and oak taste from the beer.

Closing out the tab, just like the Kentucky Barrel Aged Ale, this beer is not a stout but an ale.  I really love this beer but the price turns me off a little bit.  I understand the price point because it is an import beer and the process it goes through.  There is a ton of flavor going on in this beer.  To me, what makes this beer so special, it is the complex tasting that is being experience.  Your mind is telling you that you are tasting this but then your taste tells you something in the beer.  It is drinkable and exetremely fun to drink.  Thanks to my friend for sharing this beer with me!  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Blog Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale

Starting a new blog, we are going towards the south of the United States to take a look at Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale.  The Alltech’s Lexington Brewing Company has been in business since 2000.  A doctor that was doing beer brewing as a hobby wanted to do something he loves doing and that is making beer.  That is really how this brewery was born.  Let us get into the beer!

Kentucky Ale is put into some fresh drain bourbon barrel and is aged to make this beer called Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale.  This beer is a nice amber color with a constant white head to it.  The smell is a nice earthly wood.  As far as the taste, it has an oak, vanilla to heavy bourbon going on in it.  It is very drinkable and dangerous for the ABV being 8.2%

Closing the tab, let me say this once and I know the brewery will love to hear this from me.  We, Chicago, gave birth to Goose Island Bourdon County Stout and when we hear Barrel Age Beers, we think it is going to be a stout.  This beer is NOT a stout.  Before the beer is put into the barrel, it is a their normal Kentucky ale, which is between an English Pale Ale and Irish Red Ale.  I really like this beer.  I am a huge fan of barrel age beers and this gives me a little something different then a porter or stout in a barrel.  You can taste more of the bourdon in this beer then a stout that is aged in it.  Stout over takes all the taste from the bourdon barrel.  This beer is very drinkable and I can drink this beer anytime of the year.  I can see a new trend in the craft beer world and I am proud to say this brewery has started.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/
