New Beer Blog Goose Island Fulton St Blend Coffee Ale

In this beer blog, we are going sample another beer from Goose Island Brewery.  It was a special release from Fulton Woods series.  It is their Fulton Street Coffee Blend Golden Ale.  If you read my earlier beer blog posts on their beers, you know the history of this Midwest craft brewery.  If you have not, please, read them to get to know this Illinois craft brewery.  Let us get into this Golden Ale.

It has a clear golden color with a semi on constant white head. The aroma has a heavy nice coffee notes. The taste has a smooth balance coffee notes with wet coffee bean aftertaste. It is pretty drinkable beer.

Closing, everyone knows that I am a huge fan of Goose Island Brewery.  It was a no brainier to pick up this new beer from them.  The coffee beans that they use are the same ones that they use in their Bourbon County Coffee Stout.  I knew that the coffee part will be awesome.  I have to say this beer did not disappointment at all.  This is a great beer.  The coffee is not in your face but it is not fade.  It has a nice balance.  I love it.  I highly recommend this beer.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Beer Blog Goose Island Oktoberfest (2014)

In this fall beer blog, we are going to get into the 2014 version of Goose Island Oktoberfest.  If you read my earlier beer blog posts on this Midwest craft brewery, you know the history of this 1980’s craft brewery.  If you have not, please, read them to get to know this Chicago Orignal craft brewery.  Let us get into this fall beer.

It has a dark clear copper color without a head.  The aroma has a slight sweet malty notes.  The taste has a sweet malty to slight but faded caramel notes.  The aftertaste has a dry malty finish.  It is pretty drinkable beer.

In the end, I have to say this year’s version is so much better than last years.  I was not a fan of last year’s beer.  It is night and day compare to these beers.  I am pretty stun and impressed.  The layer of depth has some notes of caramel notes.  I did not really pick up too much of the toffee and apricot notes that is marked on the bottle.  I am not too sure and I came up with these tasting notes before reading the bottle.  I had a chance to try it on draft and it is pretty constant from bottle to keg.  This is a great beer and I highly recommend it.  Get it while it last if you are outside of the Chicago market.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Beer Blog What Is Good Beer?

In this special beer blog, we are going to take in-depth look at beer. What is good or bad? How do we come up with this conclusion? Many of you know, I have been drinking beer for a while. I started like everyone from the Bud Lights and moved up to all the craft beers. Most craft breweries around the country know of me or know me. I started as a Metal DJ on STFU.Fm. The station shut down but before that I started to feature craft beer on the air while playing music. After the station, I started document the beers that I had in my life time. This blog was for me to go back and see if my thoughts grown. Plus, I have always wanted to be a writer. I know I am not the best on spelling and grammar, however, I believe I have improved because of this blog. I just want to say thank you for coming by reading, and putting up with my errors. This blog also made me a better beer drinker. I have learned more about each beer style. I am finding out I like all styles and it is including wheat beers. I am still writing music and sports review. I wanted to give you a little more about myself. When I thought about writing this “What Is Good Beer?” I will not point out breweries. I am not calling out anyone. Let us see if we can answer this question.

What Is Good Beer?

I know several craft beer drinkers will jump to the answer.  It is the little guys, who are Craft Breweries.  Is that because they do not make a golden lager or the companies that make it?  Craft Breweries make different beer styles asides the American Style Lager.  They will make Pale Ales to Porter to Stouts and sometimes even a German Style Lager.  Is Good Beer is more selection or “Flavor”?  “Flavor” has been toss out there.  A little style of the American Golden Lager.  German immigrants wanted to have their beers here in the States. This is where American Golden Lager came from.  Is it a ton of Ads to make the beer better?  Mass produced?  There is a brewery in the big Midwest brewery that puts their beer through hard test make sure their quality is the highest. It is make sure that their beers are up to their standards and constant. Is that a bad thing?

There are other things wrong with the mass-produced beer companies.  It is the fact they put other things into their beers.  However, it adds to their cost, they make less on their beers.  Mass produced beer market is getting smaller everyday.  They put these items into their beers to get it as close to their old country style. More and more people are drinking craft beers.  The question is their beer better or good.  Yes, it has a ton more flavor and that is the first thing anyone says.  I agree with that.  I see in every state, please, drink local.  There is nothing wrong with that.  The problem that I have is most of the newer beer companies out there are making some bad beer.  I do not mean bad in the beer will hurt you.  I mean it is just not good beer.

What about the craft breweries?

Some of the smaller breweries do not put their beers through as many tests like the bigger breweries. This leads to inconstant batches of beer. This is not a good thing when you like that beer. When you try the beer for the first time and do not like it, the quality might be the issue. Beer drinkers might be turn off and never try it again. Is this a good beer? I get it that most breweries do not have the capital to do all tests. I am not saying this is a case for all these small craft breweries.  Some little craft breweries do not even have labs to test anything.

Closing, I love craft beer and I will keep on searching for better version of my favorite beer styles.  The local guys are making beer but I am open-minded to say there are some bad or not so good beer coming from those craft breweries.  I enjoy some of the mass-produced beers but I will not go out of my way to buy them nor drink them.  Many people will not like this statement I am going to put out there.  If the beer you are drinking is good to you, it is a good beer.  We all have thoughts on beers and they are all correct.  This goes for all mass-produced beer.  If there is a bad beer on the market, the beer drinkers vote with their wallet and they will let beer companies know that it is not good.  It will disappear off the market.  Please, share your thoughts with me.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Blog De Koninck Anno 1833

Something different, we are going to get into an import beer from the import company called Duvel.  The beer that will be featured in this blog is called De Koninck Anno 1833.    The brewery was founded in 1833 in the Belgium city of Antwerp.  They brewery several different beers but this Amber Ale is their flagship beer.  It is only one of two beers that is in the states.  Let us get into the beer.

This beer is a nice amber color with a ton of white carbonation head. The smell ia not really good. It has a weird smell but as a beer drinker you never judge a beer by the look or smell.  The taste is the real story of it.  It has a slight carbonation with some sweet malty taste. It reminds me sitting around the camp fire making s’mores in the Michigan woods as a kid. It is very drinkable beer.

In closing, this is a very unique beer that comes out of Belgium.  When drinking this beer you would never thought, it comes out of Belgium.  When you think of Belgium, you picture chocolate and weird to different spicy to fruity beers.  This one is in its own little world.  I am not a huge fan of Belgium beers but I really like this beer.  It is very drinkable and have a ton of flavor without it being over spicy or hopped up.  I would recommend this beer to even your average or beginner beer drinker.  Oh I forgot to say this.  Fat Tire please go away because this beer will never been duplicate.  You loss!  You get nothing!  Good day beer!  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

Tenaya Creek Brewery Calico Brown Ale New Blog

When Vegas I will tell you what I drank, this beer was at the Mirage Hotel where I was staying at this weekend.  Bartender told me it was from a local brewery.  Well Tenaya Creek Brewery is in the Las Vegas area and it was founded 1999.  This is a small brewery that is only available in the following states and they are Nevada, Utah, Ohio,  and Arizona.  They are also in some parts of Canada.

This beer is a clear light brown in color with next to no head. The beer has a malty to nutty smell going on in the beer. The taste of this Nut Brown Ale is nutty and slightly sweet with no aftertaste.   It is a pretty drinkable beer but what stop me was the price I was paying at the bar.  That is Las Vegas for you.

Closing out after one beer, I really enjoy this beer and I wished I had time to get by the brewery.  I am hoping to get back to Vegas just to visit the brewery.  It is nice to see good beer asides the crap that was in all the betting holes.  I just hope with this brewery helps the growth of more craft beers in the Vegas area.  Since they are in Ohio, I might have to make a trip just to get some beer.  I am going to get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!
