New Beer Blog Pipeworks Ninja Vs Unicorn Double IPA

In this beer blog, we are going to feature a beer from Pipeworks Brewery.  It is their flagship  beer, which is Ninja Vs. Unicorn Double IPA.  If you read my earlier beer blog posts on their beers, you know the history of this small and upcoming Chicago base craft brewery.  If you have not, please, read them to get to know this Midwest craft brewery.  Let us get into this double IPA.

It has a slight cloudy golden color with a white constant head. The aroma has a heavy grapefruit notes. The taste has a nice grapefruit to citrus notes with a dry hop bitter aftertaste. It is pretty drinkable for a Double IPA.

Ending, this is a great beer.  I love the hops they use in this beer.  It is pretty well-balanced for being a double India Pale Ale.  There is a nice malty backbone but I kind feel it should be stronger.  I can live with it.  I have to say for a beer that is in 22oz bottle.  It is well worth the price.  I have always felt beers in 22oz bottles are not worth the price.  To me, this one lives up to the price.  I recommend you trying this brew.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Beer Blog Church Street Brewing Continental Lager

In this beer blog, Church Street Brewing is making its first appearance on this blog with their Continental Lager.  Joe Gregor traveled around checking out local beers around the world and found a nice location in the Northwest Burbs of Chicago.  Joe loves German Lagers and the craft beer drinkers will see a few Lagers in their beer line ups.  This brewery opened the doors for the first time in 2012.  They brew several different beer styles asides Lagers.  Let us get into this Lager.

It has golden color with a big white constants head.  The carbonation is heavy on this lager.  There is really no smell.  The taste has a light carbonation with a slight malty to hoppy notes.  The aftertaste is clean crisp finish.  It is a pretty drinkable lager.

In the end, I have been on a search for a good craft lager.  I believe this one from Church Street Brewing has come pretty close to it.  This lager to me is too close to the European Lager Style.  It is still good brew.  I wished I could get another bottle of this brew but they are not available in the Southeast part of Michigan.   I really did enjoy this Lager and it is towards the top of my lager list. I recommend this brew and I hope to hear your thoughts on this brew.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Beer Blog Off Color Brewing Troublesome Wheat Beer

Another beer before the road, Troublesome Wheat Beer from Off Color Brewing is the second brew to be reviewed on this beer blog.  If you read my beer blog from yesterday of their Scurry, you know the history of this upcoming craft brewery out of Chicago.  If you have not, please, read yesterday’s beer blog post to get to know Off Color Brewing.  Let us get into the beer.

It has a cloudy yellow color with a semi white head on this wheat ale.  The smell is lemon like but that comes from coriander notes.  The taste is a heavy citrus to coriander notes with a citrus aftertaste.  It is pretty drinkable.

TROUBLESOME

Blended Wheat Beer

Most brewers spend a lot of time and effort keeping lactobacillus out of their breweries; it was the first thing we brought in (it still has to stay in the corner though). We blend together two different beers to make Troublesome. The first is a somewhat uninteresting wheat beer and the second is an overly acidic & funky beer fermented solely with lactobacillus. We blend the two beers together with coriander and salt at the tail end of fermentation to create a mild, lemony tartness and a fuller sensation of mouthfeel. And yes, it’s hard to make.

Closing out the beer tab, I am not a fan of wheat beers.  I love German Hefeweizen but not too many wheats.  I love Upland Brewing Wheat and this beer from Off Color.  I just realized both of these craft beers are not even in my market.  Now that is pretty funny.  I will have to do some road trips.  What I like about this Wheat Beer, you do not taste the wheat or yeast like most American wheat beers.  I love the coriander that is used in this brew.  It has a nice lemon notes that kick off through out the beer drinking experience.  There is not over the top aftertaste from the beer and lemon notes.  It is just right.  They do some brewery tours and I would check into that to get to know this brewery a little bit more.  I highly recommend this brew.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Beer Blog Revolution Brewing Rosa Hibiscus Ale

In this beer blog, we are going to get into another brew from Revolution Brewing.  The brew that will be featured in this beer blog post is their Rosa Hibiscus Ale.  If you read my earlier beer blog post on their Anti-Hero IPA, you know the history of this young Chicago based brewery.  If you have not, please, read that Anti-Hero IPA post.  Let us get into the beer.

It has a dark copper color with a shade of rose tones without a head on it. To me, there is not a smell in this beer. The taste is a sweet carbonated with some spicy kicks.There is a touch of tart in the drinking experience.  There is no aftertaste. It is extremely drinkable.

In closing, I did not know what to expect from this brew.  I have to be honest.  I still do not know how I feel about this beer.  It is an easy drinkable beer.  They were successful at making this a session beer.  This is a good beer and I enjoyed drinking it. I will have to say I will never have this beer again.  Here is my thought pattern and it goes with all their six-pack cans.  This brewery makes some great beers.  I just feel the price you are paying for their beers at retail is not worth the price.  It goes for most of their twenty-two ounce bottles.  I just feel their beers should be a little bit cheaper since they are brewed here in Chicago.  I would say try it and tell me what your thoughts are about this beer.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Blog Two Brothers Outlaw India Pale Ale

Starting a new beer blog, this is the first beer from Two Brothers Brewery that I am blogging about and the beer is Outlaw IPA.  Two Brothers was founded in 1996 in Warrenville, IL by Jim and Jason Ebel.  They brew several different beer styles and some of them they do a twist to some of the classic beer styles.  Let us get into the beer.

This beer has a copper color without a head on it.  The smell is of earthly to piney.  The taste of this IPA is earthly to piney with dry hoppy aftertaste.  It is not really a drinkable beer.

As bold as the name suggests but as friendly as the masked man, comes our first world of cans.  This IPA is full of citrus and pine hop character and aroma.  The hop flavors play off the pleasant malt complexity like a good sidekick.   Giddy-up.  60 IBU 6.3% ALC/VOL

In closing, one of many new breweries being opened in Chicago area and this is one of the newer ones.  Two Brothers are growing at a rapid rate and I believe it is taking away from quality of the beer.  When I moved to Chicago, I was excited to try all the breweries at that time in 2005.  Two Brothers was on that list and I loved their beers back then.  I just feel their beers have loss something.  It could be passion or rushing the beers through the brewing process to keep up with demand. Outlaw IPA does not have enough malty backbone to my taste buds as a hop head.  It is all bitterest and that does not make this hop head happy. It kills the hop taste for me. This beer is a huge let down and I love my craft beer in a can.  This beer is selling pretty good and I believe it is because it is local brew.  General Chicago Craft Beer Drinkers’ pallets are still growing and I hope these local beer companies realize and step up to make some good beer.  I am not saying this the worse India Pale Ale.  I believe it is average India Pale Ale and this brewery could do better.  Just believe, I say this before.  It does not mean you might not like this beer.  Please, go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Blog Baderbrau Chicago Pilsner

Starting a new tab, we are going to sample out a beer, which is Baderbrau Brewing Company, called Baderbrau Chicago Pilsner.  The brewery, which is Pavichevich Brewing Company, was founded in 1988 by Kenneth Pavichevich, who was a former Chicago Police Officer.  He travel Europe and enjoyed find beers.  He believed that Chicago should have its own world class beer.  Kenneth filed for bankrupt and then sold to Goose Island Brewery in 1997.  It was later named Golden Goose Pils and later Goose Island Pils.  They stop brewing the beer in 2002 and lanched a beer called 312 Urban Wheat as a draft only and then bottles.  This pilsner was replace by one of the biggest craft brand in Chicago right now.  This beer returned in 2012 under Baderbrau Brewery Company in Chicago.  Let us get into the beer.

This pilsner has a dark golden color with a constant white head on the beer. There is really no smell to the beer.  The taste of the beer is the normal import pilsner. Even though the beer is a craft beer here in Chicago.  It is crisp dry and refreshing with a huge drinkable aspect to it.

Closing out the tab, this pilsner has that old school European feel to it.  I am just now getting into pilsner beer style.  I have to say this beer is interesting.  I do enjoy this beer and I do remember seeing Goose Island Pils in the market when I first moved to Chicago.  I never had it and I wonder if they could resurface that beer.  I know they will not do that because they want to be known as an Ale House.  This beer has a ton of flavor and exetremely drinkable.  A beer drinker could drink this in a Chicago Summer days to Winter days.  I love this beer and I am glad to see it back in Chicagoland area.  It is drinking the history of Chicago Craft history in your hand.  Go try and tell me your thoughts on this beer.  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Blog Revolution Brewing Company Anti Hero IPA

In this blog, we are going to get into one of many craft breweries, which is Revolution Brewing Company and the beer is called Anti Hero India Pale Ale.  Revolution Brewing Company was founded in 2010 in the Logan Square area in Chicago as a brewpub.  They brew several different styles and took several employees when they opened  from the Goose Island Brewery before they were brought by Budweiser.  In 2012, they opened their production brewery to start the packaging and kegging their beers.  This brewery is one of the best ones in the Chicagoland area and of course is the best one of the new breweries in Chicago.  This is totally my thought.  Let us get into this beer.

Anti Hero IPA is a new line of bottles, cans and draft that is coming from this new brewery. Revolution Brewing Anti Hero has a copper color without a head to the beer.  It has an earthy to slight citrus smell to it. As for the taste of the beer, it has a sweet to heavy carbonation to the beer with a citrus to slight grapefruit to it. It is a drinkable beer for the style with a ABV 6.5%.

In closing, it took me several times drinking this beer to really start to like it.  That is not a bad thing to the brewery nor the beer.  This beer has a nice balance from the hops to the malty backbone.  It has a the nice West Coast IPA feel but from a Midwest Brewery.  At least, I know I could go direction to the brewery and get it fresh asides guessing the code dates on any West Coast Breweries beers.  I had this beer on draft at the Blue Bar and I know I will be enjoying this beer on many football Sundays.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/
