In this special beer blog, we are going to get into the next beer in the planet series.  It is Saturn The Bringer Of Old Age from Bell’s Brewery.  If you read my earlier beer blog posts on their beers, you know the history of this Michigan craft brewery.  If you have not, please, read them to get to know Bell’s Brewery.  Let us get into this beer.

It has an amber color without a head on this brew. The aroma has a bourbon notes. The taste has a heavy overall bourbon notes with a dry bourbon aftertaste. It is not drinkable beer.

Here is a description from the beer bottle:

This is one of a seven part series inspired by Gustav Holst’s musical composition, “The Planets.”  Strap in and embark on a flavor tour of our solar system – in the order of Holst’s piece.  Mars to Neptune.

Here is a description from their website (www.bellsbeer.com):

Saturn is a bourbon barrel aged barleywine loaded with notes of toffee, caramel, oak and vanilla that finishes with a warming touch. The first beer brewed for this series, Saturn has been aging in casks since July 2014. True to its name, this beer is well suited for vintage aging.

Closing, I have to say that this series has been pretty interesting.  I had one of these beers and it will keep the beer drinker hunting for rest of them. However, I have to say overall, this series has been pretty disappointing.  There has been some really good ones, average, and below average brews.  This one was one of the better ones.  I did not know how a Barleywine being aged in Bourbon Barrel would go over.  It worked pretty well.  I hope they bring this beer back as a seasonal.  This is a great brand.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

Cheers!
