New Blog Redhook Long Hammer IPA

In this blog, the beer that will be featured is from Redhook Brewery and it is called Long Hammer IPA. This brewery was founded in 1981 by Paul Shipman and Gordon Bowker in Seattle, Wa. This brewery is known to have all of their beers be very drinkable for any event and time of the year.

This beer in the glass is a light copper color. The smell is citrus to almost earthy.  The taste of the beer is of carbonation to some citrus drinkable and able to drink it all day. It might be drinkable but it is not well balance. I feel the hoppies over take everything.

Here is a description from their website (www.redhook.com):

The generous addition of hops both during and at the end of the fermentation process (dry-hopping) gives our India Pale Ale its characteristic bitterness and piney citrus aroma and flavor.  The medium body, crisp finish, and moderate alcohol and IBU levels makes this one of America’s most drinkable and best-selling IPAs.

In closing, this brewery was one of the first breweries that had me hooked on craft beer world. I use to drink their ESB (Extra Special Bitter) all the time. From there, I started to try other craft beers from other craft breweries. I want to thank this brewery for showing me the light on good beer. I like this beer for its drinkable but I believe it is not well balance and over hopped. It does not have enough malt backbone to it. I love this beer in the can but I will not buy it all the time. Drink it! Enjoy it! Metal it! \m/

Cheers!

New Blog Big Horn Ram No Name Imperial IPA

In this blog, we are going to talk about another brew from The Ram Brewery company called No Name Imperial IPA.  If you read my last blog, then you know this brewery.  I try this one at the Wheeling, IL location.  I do know this is available at other locations.  This is a seasonal so if you want to try.  I would say you need to act pretty fast.

When pouring this beer, the color of it is a brownish copper look with constant white head. Over time the head will go to nothing. Nice circus to earth smell to the beer. As far as taste, it is very sweet with an overpowering bitter aftertaste. For being an Imperial IPA, it is very well balance and drinkable beer.

In closing, as long as they have this beer on tap I will be getting by jug filled with it.  I can drink this beer all day without the dry mouth that I get from some normal IPAs to the overpowering Imperial IPAs.  I love this beer.  It is so much better then their normal Big Red IPA.  I realize these are two different IPA styles.  I would try this beer.  Enjoy it!  Drink it!  Metal it! \m/

Cheers!

Uncommon Brewery Bacon Brown Ale

This brewery is from Santa Cruz, CA. They pack all their beers in 16oz cans four packs. All of their beers are organic. It is hard to be an organic brewery because all of your suppliers need to be organic and approved by the government. This brewery tries to make different and unique for the craft beer drinkers in the world.  I love this statement from their website.  It is right up on their opening page (www.uncommonbrewers.com)

Our beers are unfiltered, unpasteurized, and undoubtedly uncommon.  They’re designed to grow over time as they age.  Store in a cool place and witness the change.

I haven’t done this with any of their beers, however I have aged other beers. Anyways Uncommon Brewers brew the following beers.

Golden State Ale

Siamese Twin

Baltic Porter

The one we will be talking about in this blog is the Bacon Brown Ale.  What makes this beer very different than anything else out in the market, it is brew with pork products. This beer pours brown and has heavy carbonation.  I would pour this beer very slowly into a glass.  The smell of the beer is pork and malts. When drinking this beer, you will experience bacon taste throughout the whole beer tasting experience. You will not get too much pork taste at first however, the deeper you get into the beer the more you will taste the pork. The bacon will build up on your pallet. Being a small brewery, I am not saying this is a bad thing but each can is different.  I would say try this beer a few times before say you do not like this beer.

Here is a few ways to get know and information from this brewery:

Website: www.uncommonbrewers.com

Twitter: @uncommonbrewers (I am not sure if this is them and it is not active.)

In the end, a few things to remember when drinking this beer is drink it alone and let it build up on a pallet.   WARN, if you are on a meatless diet, can’t eat meat, or choices not eat meat, DO NOT drink this beer.  I really love this beer and I can’t wait to get a newer batch to see if it is different then this batch.  Drink it! Enjoy it! Metal it! \m/

Cheers!
