New Beer Blog Upland Brewing Double Dragonfly Imperial India Pale Ale

In this beer blog, we are going to get into my favorite craft brewery from Indiana, who is Upland Brewing.  The brew that will be feature is Double Dragonfly Imperial India Pale Ale.  If you read my earlier beer blog posts on this craft brewery, you know the history of Upland Brewing.  If you have not, please, read those beer blog posts to get to know this brewery.  Let us get into the beer.

It has a slight cloudy copper color with a constant white head.  The smell is a flower notes.  The taste has a piney with earthy notes with dry hoppy bitter finish.  It is kind of drinkable beer.

We took our award-winning Dragonfly IPA and cranked up the malt and hops, but managed to hold onto the perfect balance our Dragonfly is known for. The result is a brew with a very powerful hop profile, matching malt character, and an enticing floral nose.

Closing, I was sad when I was moving out of Chicago market.  When I heard Upland Brewing, they were making it to the Chicago Market.  I did not close on my condo until the end of the year.  I was able to pick up some Upland Brewing beers before leaving town each time.  As many of you know, I am a huge fan of this brewery and their Dragonfly IPA.  I was so happy to see this beer, which is their Double Dragonfly, on the shelves at my old liquor store.  I love the hops and aroma from this brewery.  This is a big beer that is worth every penny to purchase this beer.  I was pretty stun how it was kind of drinkable.  I recommend this beer if you can find it in your market.  I really hope they make it to the Michigan market.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Beer Blog Upland Brewing Strawberry Lambic

In this special beer blog, we are going to get into a project that Upland Brewing did not know was going on in their brewery.  One of their assist brewmasters started a sour and package it.  Everyone at the brewery loved his sours.  Sour ales take years to make and is one hardest beer style to make.  If you mess it up, you need to start over. If you read my earlier beer blog post on their Dragonfly IPA, you know the history of this brewery.  If you have not, please, that beer blog post to get to know this brewery.  Let us get into this sour ale.

It is a cloudy strawberry color without a head on the beer.  The smell is a sour strawberry.  The taste is extremely sour strawberry and tart with sour aftertaste.  It is not drinkable.

Closing, I have to say I am a huge fan of sours and Upland Brewery.  I was excited to get my hands on this brew.  I know this sour is hard to get on the market.  I have to say this brew is pretty sour.  I like it but I wished I had cork to save it for the next day.  The color, smell, and taste are sour strawberry notes.  This is an awesome beer and they have done a great job on this brew.  I hope to get a chance to try their other sours in the near future.  I highly recommend their sours.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Blog Upland Dragonfly India Pale Ale

While in DC for Savor, this beer I had at Church Key Bar and Grill in DC.  Lolita had this beer first and I wished I order this beer as my first one.  It does not matter because I had the chance to have this great beer.  The beer I am talking about is Upland Dragonfly Ale.  Upland Brewery was founded in 1997 by Marc Sattinger, Russ Levitt and Dean LaPlante in Bloomington, Indiana.

This beer is a copper in color with a little head on it. It is piney to earthy in smell. It is a smooth sweet circus carbonation in taste. This beer is very drinkable brew.

India Pale Ale originated when the British Empire was at its height. British soldiers and civil servants were stationed all over the globe (including India), and regular ales could not survive the long journey by sea to reach them. The British solved this terrible dilemma by adding excessive amounts of hops to their beer–using the preservative properties of hops to increase the life of their beers.

Our Dragonfly India Pale Ale is true to this tradition, featuring seven hop additions to create a powerful hop profile. A solid malt base, however, tempers the bitter American hops, giving Dragonfly a balance not often found in this style. The end product is a well-balanced, malty beer with the crisp taste of hops and an exceptionally floral nose.

Empty beer glass, this is a very good beer.  I love drinking this beer.  It is very well made and balance for being an IPA.  This beer is very drinkable and sessional.  I just wished the Church Key Bar where I was at in DC had more beers from this brewery.  I will be hunting down more of their beers.  I will also be making a road trips to Indiana to visit the brewery, since, I live in the Chicago area.  If you live in the states where they sell their beers, I am jealous and you should try their beers.  Please let me know what you think about the beers.  Drink it!
