New Beer Blog Flossmoor Station Rail Hopper IPA

In this beer blog, we will be drinking a beer from Flossmoor Station Brewing and the beer is called Rail Hopper IPA.  Flossmoor Station is located in an old railroad station build in 1906.  The brewery opened in 1996 after a ton of work to the old railway station.  Today this brewery makes several different beer styles and bottles their beers in 22oz.  They have kept up the railroad theme throughout the brewpub.  I highly recommend the restaurant if you are not a beer drinker.  Let us get into the beer.

This India Pale Ale has a hazel copper color with a white constant head. The smell has a piney to it. The taste has a piney with a dry hop finish. It has a nice fresh hop taste. It is a pretty drinkable beer.

In closing, if you get this beer within its life, it is awesome beer.  The hops are not over the top but there are still there living in the beer.  It has a great malty backbone to keep you coming back for more.  There is not faults in this India Pale Ale unlike most  IPAs on the market.  I would be careful what you but out in the stores in the Chicago market.  I recommend trying this beer.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Beer Blog Gigantic Brewing The Royale Beer

In this beer blog, we are going to sample another beer from Gigantic Brewing.  It is one of their everyday beer and it is called The Royale Beer, which is their Belgian Pale Ale.  If you have not read the earlier beer blog posts, please, read those beer blogs to get to know this great brewery.  If you have read those beer post, you know history and of this beer.  Let us get into beer.

It has a clear golden color with a constant white head. The smell has a grapefruit to the it. The taste has a heavy grapefruit without an aftertaste. It is drinkable beer.

In closing, I am a huge fan of this brewery and Belgian Pale Ales.  This beer has everything you expect from a Belgian style ale.  It has a pretty big hop forward to it.  It has a full body but yet easy drinkablity that will have the beer drinker coming back for more of it.  I am not a huge fan of it and I believe this is not the best beer that Gigantic brews.  However, it is not the bad, I just prefer their India Pale Ales.  I recommend this beer.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Beer Blog Dogfish Sixty-One

In this beer blog, we are going to try an unique beer from Dogfish Head Brewery.  The beer is called Sixty-One.  If you read my earlier beer blog on their flagship beer, you know the history of this brewery.  If you have not, please, read that beer blog to get to know this brewery from Delaware.  Let us get into the beer.

It has a clear crimson red color without a head on the beer. The smell has a citrus grapefruit. The taste has slight carbonated to heavy grapefruit with no aftertaste. It is not drinkable beer.

In closing, this beer is pretty unique beer.   I still do not know how I feel towards it.  To me, it taste like fruit punch India Pale Ale.   I can see this brewery doing well with this beer because of how unique it is to the beer market.  I know many people will be picking this beer to see what is in this beer bottle.  I recommend this beer because of how unique it is .  Please let me know what your thoughts are on this beer.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Beer Blog Innis & Gunn Irish Whiskey Cask Scottish Stout

In this beer blog, we are going to get into another beer from Innis & Gunn.  It is Oak Aged Beer that is Irish Whiskey Barrels with their Scottish Stout.  If you read my earlier beer blog on their flagship, you know the history of this brewery.  If you have not, please, read that beer post.  Let us get into the beer.

It has a black color without a head on the beer. The smell is chocolate whiskey to the beer. The taste has a chocolate with a nice well balance taste.  The aftertaste has a slight bite like whiskey to it. It is drinkable beer.

In closing, I really enjoyed this beer.  They are doing something different than most breweries.  They make some killer beers and then age them in barrels.  I know this has been a huge trend in the craft beer world but there is not too many breweries that all of their beers they make are aged in barrels.  This brewery is one of the few and the only one I know of out there.    This stout is something else.  I would love to try it before they put it in the barrels.  I know the price might be a little pricey, however, it is well worth the price.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Beer Blog Crown Valley Gunslinger Imperial India Pale Ale

In this beer blog, we are going to get into a beer from Crown Valley Brewing.  The beer is Gunslinger Imperial India Pale Ale.  There is not too much information on this brewery.  I know they are from Ste. Genevieve, Missouri.  I know the brewmaster came from Anheuser Busch.  Let us get into the beer.

It has a cloudy copper color with a constant white head. The smell has a fade grapefruit to citrus and orange citrus. The taste has a carbonated citrus with a dry hop finish. It is drinkable beer.

Gunslinger Double IPA is a robust and malty beer, with an intense hop profile.  Well balanced, rich malt flavors with powerful hop notes from the use of five different hop varieties.

Double India Pale Ale

Double IPA8.3% ABVHistoryDouble IPA brewed in 1994 by Vinnie Cilurzo, then head brewer of Blind Pig Brewing Company of Temecula, Californi. Cilurzo claims he “accidentally” created the style by adding 50% too much malt to his mash tun. He then “corrected” this mistake by adding 100% more hops. This is up for some debate, however, as the local San Diego Pizza Port brewery claims to have been brewing “the original San Diego IPA” since 1992 when they opened their brewery (two years before Cilurzo and Blind Pig). In the end, I enjoyed drinking this beer.  It has nice malty backbone with hop impact to make this a great Double India Pale Ale.  I just wish there was some more information on this brewery and I wish they would put code dates on their beers.  I am afraid to buy any in the Chicago market because it might be out of code.  If you have a chance to try it, please, do so.  I recommend ordering from the brewery’s brewpub.  It is a great beer and I recommend trying this beer.  Let me what you think.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Beer Blog Lakefront Brewing Big Easy Imperial Maibock

In this beer blog, we are going to get into a brewery that I have said I would never buy their beers. This beer from Lakefront Brewery was given to me by a friend that loves their beers.  The beer is called Big Easy Imperial Maibock.  If you read my earlier beer blog on the brewery tour, you know the history of this brewery.  If you have not, please, read the first part or the whole beer blog post.  Let us get into the beer.

It has a cloudy golden copper color without a head on the beer.  The smell is a fate caramel that was melted to slightly burned. The taste is a smooth creamy caramel without aftertaste. It is drinkable.

In closing, I was pretty stun on how good this beer is coming from this brewery.  This is by far their best beer they brew.  The rest of their beers I would pour down the drain but that is my thought and ideas on this brewery.  I have never had Imperial Maibock.  This is a great beer and I wish it was brew every day.  I might have to open the mind again and retry their beers.  I still cannot get over how my friend was treated but then again, I really do not talk to him anymore.  I recommend trying this beer and I will retry their beers.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Music Monday Blog Alice In Chains The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here

In this Music Monday Blog, we are going to get into the new release from Alice In Chains.  The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here is their fifth studio record from this Metal Grunge band.

History

Alice In Chains was formed in 1987 by original lead singer Layne Staley and Jerry Cantrell, who is the lead guitar player.  The band was filled out with Sean Kinney, who is the drummer that was in another band with Jerry, along with original bassist Mike Starr.  Alice In Chains signed with Columbia Record in 1989.  They release their first official release which was their EP We Die Young.  The huge success of the EP Columbia rushed the band back in the studio to record their first full studio record, which was called Dirt.  Dirt was release in July 1990.  In 1991, Man In The Box music video hit the MTV rotation and the band did not look back since.  In 1993, Mike Starr left the band during the band’s tour and was replaced by Mike Inez.  It is kind hard to believe this is true, however, the summer of 1993 Alice In Chains did their last major tour with Layne Staley under Lollapalooza.  Alice In Chains went back into the studio with acoustic guitars to record songs, which was never supposed to be release.  This EP became the first EP to be at the top of the charts.  Jar Of Flies had such hits like No Excuses, I Stay Away, and Don’t Follow.  Before 1994 tour, Layne went into rehab for his drug issues.  This tour would have had Metallica, Suicidal Tendencies, Danzing, and Fight but Layne went back using heroin.  This forced Alice In Chains to pull out of the tour and was replaced by Candlebox.  Alice In Chains was not active in the beginning of 1995 which led Layne Staley to join the supergroup, who was Mad Season, for one release.  In the middle part of 1995, Alice In Chains enters the studio for the final record with original lead singer Layne Staley.  This self title called by the record company but the band called it Grind.  This 1995 release had four hits on it, which three of the songs had Jerry Cantrell as the lead singer.  The band choose not to support the record with a tour, which is believe there was drug abuse in the band again.  The band did a live show for the famous MTV Unplugged, which was their first live show in three years.  The band went on to do a few live shows with reunited Kiss with their original line up.  I saw them for the first time at old Tiger Stadium on June 28th, 1996.  Layne Staley last show live was on July 3rd, 1996 in Kansas City.  Jerry Cantrell and the rest of his band mates recorded his first solo record, which was Boggy Depot, which was supposed to be Alice In Chains songs but Layne could not record new music.  In 1998, Alice In Chains with reunited Layne Staley went into the studio to record Layne’s two final record songs.  The two songs, which are Get Borned Again and Died, were suppose to be on Jerry Cantrell’s second solo record, which was Degradetion Trip.  Jerry Cantrell’s second solo record he dedicated the record to Layne Staley after finding out about his death in 2002.  Mike Starr pasted on in 2011 with years of drug abuse.  In 2005, Alice In Chains reunite with new lead singer Willian DuVall.  They released their fourth studio record and first with new lead singer called Black Gives Away To Blue in 2009.  Alice In Chains has released five studio records, two live records, a few greatest hits, and three EPs.  Let us get into this record.

Track List

Hollow

Hollow has that classic Alice In Chains riff style.  It has the old school Alice In Chains feeling.  The vocal is what made Alice In Chains back in the day and today.  I know this song and record has it through out.  The drums and bass playing is pretty solid.  This is a great opening track for their second record with new lead singer William DuVall.  AIC (Alice In Chains) has done a great job on the music and I am joining the guitar solo does the end of the song.

Pretty Done

Pretty Done just like Hollow does not miss a beat.  There is some solid music so far on this record.  I am loving the lyrics so far on both songs.  This record so far sounds like their last record which is not a bad thing.  The last record was a great comeback record for AIC.  Jerry has a solid guitar solo halfway through the song.  There is solid playing on Pretty Done and a nice finish to it.

Stone

I am loving the bass and drums start to Stone.  It reminds me of the old days of AIC.  The guitars are solid too.  Jerry and William singing is perfect just like when Layne and Jerry did it on the first three records.  I am loving the lyrics like the other two songs.  I love the break on the music.  There is a nice guitar break and then turns into a nice guitar solo halfway period of the song.

Voices

I love the start of Voices with the distance and then fade in with the acoustic guitars.  Voices reminds me of something I would have heard off Jars of Flies EP.  There is some pretty solid lyrics along with some great music.  This is one of my favorite songs off this record so far.  I really like how they went back to use the acoustic guitars.  I have always thought that Jar of Flies was the best music they have ever put out.  This is a very talented band and I am glad they are still around.

The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here

I love the start of this song and I also love how everyone is playing different things.  It gives a different feeling to the song.  This is a pretty creepy song so far.  This has a little Black Sabbath feeling in the music.  I will be honest I am not a huge fan of the lyrics but the music is pretty good.  Mike is walking up and down his bass guitar.  Asides the lyrics, I just feel like this song is too long for itself.  I hate to say this about the title track of the record.  At least, it has a pretty solid ending.

Lab Monkey

Lab Monkey has a weird start on the guitar.  The drums and bass are pretty strong when they come into the song.  William has some pretty solid singing.  I love how they are able to keep the old AIC singing style.  I was afraid this band would be doomed with a new singer.  This is a pretty good song from the music and lyrics.  I love the wah petal on the guitar towards the end of the song.  Lab Monkey picks up with the creepy stand point like The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here.  There is nothing wrong with that.  It is a great song.

Low Ceiling

Low Ceiling has that Man In The Box guitar riff kind of at the beginning but changes through it.  This song reminds me of something and I just do not know what it is.  There is some great music and lyrics on Low Ceiling.  I am loving the drumming along with the bass playing.  Jerry does not have the best guitar solo but it is fitting for the song but the later part of it is gets better.

Breath On A Window

Breath On A Window has some great guitar playing with great playing by bass and drums.  There is some great lyrics and music.  This record has not been a disappointment.  AIC has done a great job so far.  There is a nice guitar break halfway through the song.  I am loving the guitar work towards the end of the song.

Scalpel

Scalpel has acoustic guitar at the beginning with some great singing.  Once again, I love this band that brings out the acoustic guitars.  There is nice music and lyric writing throughout this song.  This is a nice calming song and it is not in your face.  There is some great singing between Jerry and Will on this song.

Phantom Limb

I love the strong guitar riff along with the drums echoing it.  The music is solid with some great lyrics dancing on top of it.  I love the music changes throughout Phantom Limb.  There is a nice guitar solo towards the later parts of the song.  AIC has done a great job on this song.  I am pretty speechless on it.  I love how they ended the song.

Hung On A Hook

Hung On A Hook has a great start.  There is some pretty interesting music and singing.  I am enjoying the pace of the music.  There is a ton going on in this song.  AIC still has it and I am looking forward to seeing this music and the band live.  I love the turn in the music towards the end.  There is some nice guitar effects.

Choke

The last song is Choke has the perfect ending song for this record.  I love the drums with the bass echoing it.  Of course, there is a nice touch on the acoustic guitars.  This song sounds like it could have been on the last record.  There is some great lyrics and music once again from AIC.  This is a great song to finish this great record.  I love the guitar work towards the end of the song.  It also has a great ending to Choke and the record.

In closing, I enjoyed listening to this record and I am looking forward to listening to it a little bit more.  This record is not their best record but Alice In Chains like a very few bands have not put out a bad record.  Some bands have one song and they put some fillers songs around it just to get the record out.  I am not saying Alice In Chains has a bunch singles on this record.  They put some thoughts in their songs and their filler songs above average than the rest of the filler songs from other bands.  I also love how they were able to keep their style and sound.  It is hard for a band with some line up changes and big time with a loss of a orinigal singer.  This is a very talented band and I am glad I was able to grow up listening to them and Candlebox and Stone Temple Pilots.  I highly recommend this record and let me know what your thoughts are about this record.  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Beer Blog Tallgrass Velvet Rooster Belgian-Style Triple Ale

In this beer blog, we are going to take a look at another beer from Tallgrass Brewing.  The beer is called Velvet Rooster Belgian-Style Triple Ale.  If you read my earlier beer blog on their flagship beer, which is 8-Bit Pale Ale, you know about Tallgrass Brewing.  If you have not read that beer and just saw this one, please, read that beer blog to get to know this brewery.  Let us get into the beer.

It has cloudy yellow color with a constant white head on the beer. The smell is Belgian spices to a slight citrus to the beer. The taste of this full body beer has a citrus with species. The aftertaste is a weird dry cinnamon that is pretty fade. It is drinkable beer however, beer drinker can only have one or two and have to move on to another beer.

The beer pours a golden straw color with brilliant clarity. Topped with a lofty pure white head the beer has a wonderful floral nose, with subtle fruit notes.

The taste is clean and crisp, with subtle fruit notes and a touch of candy like sweetness. Rooster’s light carbonation gives it a Champagne-like effervescent that provides a crisp offset to its sweet finish. While a pint glass is always nice, Velvet Rooster would also be at home in a tulip glass or Champagne flute. It is the cock of the walk.

In closing, This is a pretty good beer.  I am not a huge fan of Belgian style beers.  This one is pretty unique because it is the first and only Triple Ale in a can in the United States and I believe the world.  I am pretty excited this brewery is hitting the Chicago Market.  I am a huge fan of this brewery.  I love their 8-Bit Pale Ale.  I might not be a fan of Belgian-Style Triple Ales but this is a well made beer.  I know people will be enjoy this beer.  I recommend all of their beers and you need to seek these beers out.  Please let me hear your thoughts and  let the brewery know.  They love to hear your thoughts.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Beer Blog Tallgrass Ethos IPA

In this beer blog, we are going to get into Tallgrass’s latest India Pale Ale and it is called Ethos IPA.  They are coming to Chicago market in June and I cannot wait.  I know this brewery and my friends know that I am a huge fan of Tallgrass Brewing.  If you read my earlier blog on their flagship called 8-Bit Pale Ale, you know the history of this awesome brewery.  If you have not, please, read that beer blog to get up to speed on this brewery.  Let us get into the beer.

It has a clear copper color with a white constant head. The smell is earthy to it. The taste is piney to a fresh-cut grass with a dry hoppy aftertaste. It is kind of drinkable beer. It is one or two and I need to move onto the next one.

In closing, I love this beer and I once again I am very happy to hear this brewery has made it to Chicago.  I like this IPA over their other IPA.  There was nothing wrong with the other IPA.  I just felt it was more of an English style IPA.  You can taste the IBU in this beer but it is well balance with the great malt backbone.  I love the hops that they use in this IPA.  This brewery is a perfect storm.  What I mean by this, they have a great liquid and great packaging.  I know Chicago craft beer drinker will love this beer and I recommend all their beers.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/

New Beer Blog Kona Brewing Wailua

In this beer blog, we are going to get into the summer seasonal from Kona Brewing.  I am so happy this brewery has made it to Chicago market and I am looking forward a summer of drinking some of their great brews.  The brew that will be featured in this beer post is their Wailua Ale.  If you read my earlier beer blog on their beers, you know the history of this brewery.  If you have not read those beer post, please, read that beer post.  Let us get into the beer.

This wheat ale has a clear yellow color without a head on it. There is no smell in this beer. The taste of this light body is a tropical with a sweet passion fruit aftertaste. It is extremely drinkable beer.

Paradise Found

Wailua is Hawaiian for two fresh water streams mingling.  This was just the inspiration we needed for our Aloha Series Wailua Ale brewed with tropical passion fruit.  A refreshing, citrusy, sun-colored ale with the cool taste of Hawaii.

In closing, this beer is in their new bottle with the islands on it.  It is shaped like a long board.  This is not my favorite beer and it is way too light body to me.  There is nothing wrong with that.  It is a well made beer and Kona did a great job brewing this beer.  I know for a fact they will be selling a ton around the country.  I did not get too much in the smell but you can taste the passion fruit in it.  There is another great west coast brewery called Bridgeport that came out with a beer called Summer Squeeze with the passion fruit in it.  Both of these beers are great.  I believe Kona has shown us the lifestyle and beauty of the Hawaii.  I recommend this beer and I would love to hear your thoughts on this beer.  Go get some!  Drink it!  Enjoy it!  Metal it!  \m/
